Job Description

GTRI is seeking a highly motivated individual with 1-10 years of work experience to join an established team of experts in performing research and development focused on the discovery and analysis of wireless communication system vulnerabilities. The Techniques Branch in CIPHER's Network Vulnerability Division (NVD) is focused on reverse engineering, vulnerability analysis, and the development and demonstration of RF-delivered techniques against wireless communications equipment. The candidate's primary responsibility will be to perform research in discovering and analyzing security vulnerabilities associated with a wide variety of wireless communication systems. Technical disciplines that may be required in these efforts include test, evaluation and reverse engineering of RF communications systems; development of software defined radio (SDR) algorithms to support reverse engineering and testing; communications theory; RF signal collection and analysis; communication protocol analysis; software reverse engineering and vulnerability analysis; and countermeasures and vulnerability analysis for RF communication systems. The candidate is required to have basic skills in at least two of these disciplines. Skills in software reverse engineering, computer programming, or working with test and measurement equipment are a plus. The candidate will be expected to support sponsor briefings and prepare technical deliverables.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Related Field
  • Familiarity with design and/or testing of RF communications systems
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Final DoD TS security clearance
  • Experience with design and/or testing of RF communications devices
  • Experience with developing countermeasures against RF communications systems (jamming, spoofing, replay attacks, etc.)
  • Experience with software reverse engineering tools (IDAPro, advanced debuggers, etc.)
  • Familiarity working with test and measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers and logic analyzers
  • Familiarity with a variety of modulation and coding schemes
  • Familiarity with frequency hop communications systems
  • Familiarity with communication protocols used in military RF communication systems
  • Familiarity with security features associated with RF communication systems
  • Experience working with the U.S. government, including the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community
  • DCID 6-4 for SCI eligibility

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
