Job Description

GTRI’s Co-operative Education (“co-op”) program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school. Housing and relocation assistance are not available.

The Information and Communications Lab (ICL) Communications Systems and Spectrum Division (CSSD) researches and develops next-generation wireless systems and communications techniques. Within electronic warfare, ICL CSSD generates solutions for complex radio test and measurement scenarios, test events, and in-field systems. Our engineers fuse multiple complex technologies including software-defined radio, FPGAs, LTE, circuit board design, 3D printing, and UAVs to solve our customer’s most challenging problems.

Help us research, design, build, and test the next-generation software-defined radios for electronic warfare scenarios. The student will work under the guidance of GTRI researchers performing one or more of the following activities:

  • Xilinx Zynq SoC programming and testing
  • Digital, analog, and embedded hardware design
  • Assistance with RF lab and field tests and measurements

Required Minimum Qualifications

Co-op

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related fields
  • Must be eligible to register for co-op credit with your university and commit to alternating three semesters of work with semesters of full-time school. First work term begins in January 2020.
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must have taken an advanced digital design course
  • Experience in at least 1 HDL synthesis/analysis application: Xilinx Vivado or Altera Quartus
  • Experience in at least 1 programming language: C++, C, Python, Java, etc.

Intern

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related fields
  • Commit to one semester of full-time work beginning in January 2020
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must have taken an advanced digital design course
  • Experience in at least 1 HDL synthesis/analysis application: Xilinx Vivado or Altera Quartus
  • Experience in at least 1 programming language: C++, C, Python, Java, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed one individual or team project in which a hardware platform (evaluation kit, development board, etc.) was deployed.
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
