Fermilab is America’s best-in-class laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois and at locations around the world, including deep underground mines in South Dakota and Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and the South Pole!

Fermilab’s Core Computing Division is seeking a Web Services Administrator.  Under general supervision, this infrastructure position will help support 500+ websites on a centrally managed Linux / Apache httpd platform.  The types of supported websites include standard HTML, WordPress, MediaWiki, Apache Tomcat, Payara, and more


You Will 

  • Supervise and upkeep of the centralized web services
  • Perform operational tasks as required to maintain the services 
  • Provision new web sites across multiple platforms 
  • Configure new Linux web servers for use in our infrastructure
  • Act as the central point of contact for SSL certificates  
  • Handle the ticket queue  
  • Provide support for application administrators 
  • Respond to monitoring alerts 
  • Other related duties as assigned

We Are Looking For

  • Associates degree with 3+ years of experience as a Linux Administrator or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Current experience with Apache httpd as an administrator
  • Good Communication and customer interaction skills
  • Strong writing and documentation skills
  • Strong shell script programming skills, primarily Bourne / BASH
  • An ability to learn a wide variety of technologies
  • Programming skills in PHP, Perl, & Python is a plus
  • Experience with MySQL/MariaDB & SQL is a plus
  • Knowledge of DNS is a plus
