We have an opening for Web Developer in the Technical Information Department (TID).  The selected candidate will be responsible for the design, development and maintenance of external and internal Web sites. This position will work independently to develop website content that meets the needs of external and internal collaborators, and administrative personnel. The Technical Information Department works with a diverse group of customers across the institution, both internal and external to our department. Positions within the department may support the Central Productions Division or Matrix Division.

Essential Duties:

- Work collaboratively with team on technical design, work estimation, and implementation of new projects. Finding balance for customers between their needs and user needs in order to deliver the best product.
- Work with the team to develop and implement innovative ideas for continually improving user experience, code quality, and productivity.
- Collaborate with clients and editors to define, develop, and establish objectives to meet the web specification requirements for projects, frequently responsible for customer contact and consultation.
- Provide prominent contributions in the evaluation, implementation, and administration of newly created sites using a content management system architecture.
- Design new content, customized photos and graphics, that conform with institutional specifications and frameworks.
- Address complex technical issues and provide creative solutions related to institutional compatibility, support, and system needs.
- Demonstrate user-centered focus and development mindset while independently managing projects under minimal supervision; develops project plans and schedules for web projects, including commitments on cost and schedules.
- Broad, independent interactions with all levels of personnel within own organization and frequent interactions with customers at all levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

- Associate Degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and related experience; continued education and/or work experience as a web designer, developer, or administrator developing new sites and applying new technologies to websites.
- Experience using latest technologies and practices with a diverse set of software and applications, such as Apache and MySQL database, HTML5, CSS3 and PHP; proficient understanding of client-side scripting and Javascript frameworks including jQuery and familiarity with Bootstrap and Sass. Experience building sites using Content Management Systems (CMS), such as WordPress and Drupal
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in web architecture and design including performance, accessibility, and usability
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills necessary to interact tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of personalities, disciplines, and customers. Experience working within a team and building relationships with customers.
- Experience working within production teams that comprised of other communication disciplines, e.g. photographers, graphic designers, editors/writers, and animators.
- In-depth knowledge in server architecture and troubleshooting, Linux, Apache, MySQL Database. Advanced knowledge of Apache, MySQL database, HTML, CSS, CSS framework, and PHP (e.g. Bootstrap). Experience with Git or other version control systems
- Experience in developing themes and modifying modules that are applied to CMSs such as WordPress and Drupal
- Broad understanding of responsive design development and UI/UX design principals.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.  For additional information, please see DOE Order 472.2
