Job Duties

  • Creates and modifies applications by converting requirements into code.
  • Clarify what actions the program is intended to perform
  • Present and collaborate on possible solutions to anticipated problems
  • Working as part of a team, write/lead a specific section of the application
  • Test completed applications for correct functionality;
  • Test sample data-sets to check that output from the program works as intended;
  • Updating, repairing, modifying and developing existing applications.
  • Assist in writing detailed documentation for the operation of the program by users
  • Develop unit, application level and system tests
  • Develop and modify automated scenarios by using various frameworks
  • Ensure success of continuous integration and quality control through automation
  • Promote quality within all aspects of development by actively participating in requirements gathering, technical design reviews, etc.
  • Become a subject matter expert in the application
  • Assist in production releases

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Computing, Computational Media, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Computing, Computational Media, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Computing, Computational Media, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Computing, Computational Media, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December, 2019
  • Demonstrated experience in 1 or more programming languages: JavaScript, Java, Python, AngularJS, Angular, React, Django
  • Knowledge working with source control systems and code repositories (GIT, Atlassian JIRA, bitbucket, Confluence, etc)
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and take abstract concepts then implement them independently
  • Ability to talk through problems. Problem-solving minded
  • Interest in human/people-focused problem sets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience presenting ideas to teammates
  • Creative digital design experience a plus
  • Interest in project lead or technical lead responsibilities within the year
  • Proficient understanding of open source web technologies
  • Understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS
  • Understanding of advanced JavaScript libraries and frameworks
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling and partial page updates
  • Proficient understanding of cross- browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
  • Working knowledge of UX and Web Design responsibilities.

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
