Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and scientific individual for our User Researcher Internship. We are looking for a User Researcher to work within our UI/UX group on software products that are responsible for safe and reliable operation of the electrical power grid. Youll help develop world-class products that engineers trust and love to use. Youll work closely with our Product managers and UX Design team to fuel their development with critical user insights and data.

As a User Researcher in the UI/UX Development group, you may find yourself working alongside UX Designers by developing wireframes & prototypes. You may also find yourself assisting in design critiques where you bring your unique perspectives in human limitations, customer needs, and standard usability conventions. Your flexibility and willingness to assist where needed, learn a variety of new skills, and work on multiple projects simultaneously is crucial.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about data, have experience conducting & analyzing both qualitative and quantitative research, and understand how to evaluate and user test products. They will present a methodical and ethical scientific method for unbiased research, and champion the users need for responsive and enjoyable user experiences.

Responsibilities

Conducting user research methods like interviews, contextual inquiry and task analysis with both internal and external users.

Analyzing qualitative & quantitative research results

Designing, conducting, and analyzing usability tests.

Continuously identify, measure, and improve R&D area processes.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a degree at an accredited institution encompassing Human Factors Research, and/or Human Computer Interaction

Knowledgeable about creating customer needs focused surveys and questionnaires

Proficient at transcribing research data collected in audio, video, and handwritten notes into electronic text

Experience with coding, categorizing, and memoing interview transcripts and survey results

Able to analyze software usability using models and human interaction testing

Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills

Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
