Job Description

The Information & Communication Lab is seeking to bring on a UX Researcher/Designer with hands on experience with the full spectrum of the UX research continuum. The ideal candidate will be adept at applying their design and UX research skills as well as experience to an applied research environment, be part of a dynamic cross-functional team, and fulfill the following requirements:

Job Description:

  • Designing, conducting, analyzing and reporting on user-centered design research
  • Thru user-centered research, identify user needs, goals, tasks, and workflows
  • Create workflow models, personas, and other work products consumable by the technical team
  • Perform rapid, iterative usability testing of concepts whether it be technology or business related
  • Create consumable work products that package analysis, recommendations, and actionable next steps for executive stakeholders and technical teams, as appropriate

Job Duties:

  • Synthesis and analyze qualitative/quantitative data in order to provide recommendations on engagement interventions
  • Leveraging user-centered research write reports, produce PowerPoints, create low-fidelity mock-ups or other audience-specific artifacts
  • Create engaging and compelling visual stories
  • Create visual presentation assets (ie. icons, typography)
  • Be a forward-thinking leader on combining user data and qualitative insights to inform the product experience
  • Plan, execute, interpret, and assist in socializing research findings with GTRI Portfolio Owner and Executive Leaders
  • Build actionable insights to inform engagement strategies and/or product development

Education & Length of Experience

Research Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Computer Interaction, Industrial Design or Graphic Design.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 3-4 years of UX Design Experience to include industry experience, working on UX Research, experience or service design, or product teams
  • Experience with planning and leading research activities such as interviews, group sessions, observations, and synthesis sessions
  • 2-3 years of experience in balancing balance multiple projects or tasks effectively without close supervision
  • Experience as primary author or key contributor of project deliverables (including reports and Microsoft PowerPoint presentations), demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficient in the design thinking process
  • Proficient in visual design and presentation
  • Demonstrates timely follow through on tasks
  • Attention to detail
  • If selected for an interview candidate must provide a Portfolio of past work (statement to candidate)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator, and/or Photoshop
  • Experience working closely with creative teams
  • Experience creating high-fidelity prototypes (example: interactive mockups and simulations)
  • Experience with Agile Methodology
  • Statistical/qualitative/quantitative analysis (example: SPSS, R, Stata, MAXQDA, NVivo, Dedoose, etc)

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
