Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Systems Engineering Research Division (SERD) is currently seeking a User Interface (UI) Designer for the Human Systems Engineering Branch (HSEB). HSEB is predominantly focused on the research, development and application of human systems engineering tools to support the design, development, and evaluation of complex electronic systems

RESPONISIBLITIES INCLUDE
• Perform analyses of human behavior in engineered systems and conduct research on human performance
• Design and test user interfaces for complex systems
• Evaluate hardware and software user interfaces and make recommendations for system improvements
• Perform other duties as assigned

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  •  A Bachelor’s degree in a science, engineering, or other technical field with design-related focus.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master’s degree in a science, engineering, or other technical field with design-related focus and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree,
  • A Doctoral degree in a science, engineering, or other technical field with design-related focus.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Digital design experience
• Experience with user centered design (e.g., developing user requirements, designing the information architecture, and creating wireframes, mock ups, and/or interactive prototypes)
• Experience with cognitive task analyses

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in field related to Human Systems Engineering (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Industrial Design)
• Experience with industry standard visual design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite
• Mobile UI design experience
• Responsive design experience
• Experience with government and/or Department of Defense (DoD) related projects

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
