University Professor – salary grade W 3 in the field of "Microwave and Opto-electronics"

Working field:

The scientific scope of the position is a holistic and transdisciplinary approach to III-V compound semiconductor technology, from material to applications, with focus on microwave and millimetre-wave electronics, opto-electronics, and quantum technologies.
Linked to the professorship is the position as Head of the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut (FBH), Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik, which comprises the scientific, technical and entrepreneurial leadership and the responsibility for the future development of FBH within the Leibniz-Gemeinschaft.
The position requires close co-operation with other TU chairs in electrical engineering and physics and with the other Berlin universities, particularly, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, as well as with national and international research and industrial partners.

Candidates should fulfil the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including

• a completed academic education, qualified achievements in research (PhD),
• post-doctoral teaching (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification achieved at a university, research institute, or in industry, and
• didactic qualifications, to be given proof of by a teaching portfolio (for more information see TUB website, quick access no. 144242).

We expect a person with international reputation and profound knowledge and publications in at least one of the above-mentioned fields, particularly in high-frequency electronics or GaAs- and GaN-based opto-electronics. She/he should offer

• long-standing experience as leader of large, interdisciplinary research groups
• experience in strategic planning, acquisition of major national and international research and development projects
• competence in technology transfer.

Applicants are requested to submit a first concept of the research and teaching activities envisaged with their application. The willingness to offer teaching in German as well as in English language is also a prerequisite. Very good English language skills are required. The willingness to learn German is expected from Non-German speaking applicants.
