Position Purpose

Lead technical design teams focused on transmission line engineering projects, interface with KLJ project managers and clients to provide an exceptional customer experience.


Essential Functions

  • Lead project work for the team designed to deliver the work required within scope, schedule and budget
  • Responsible for the entire scope of transmission projects including design, specifications, plans, maps, project schedule and budgets
  • Provide direction, review, and support to the group by leading transmission design teams; assuring proper practices and techniques
  • Review for Quality Assurance and Quality Control and ensure compliance with KLJ quality standards
  • Responsible for contract scope of work and project schedule
  • Participate in and facilitate meetings with stakeholders and clients
  • Instruct, train and mentor group members and support staff
  • Effectively deal with difficult situations and confrontation both internally and externally
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication



  • Collaborate with project team members and clients to lead, prepare, and participate in project proposals and interviews
  • Meet production goals and metrics set for the transmission team
  • Assist and coordinate client management activities by coordinating with Market Directors, Market Managers and Business Development Staff.
  • Coordinate the scope and schedule standards in the transmission team, including proper project setup
  • Monitor Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes and standards in service sector
  • Client and work coordination and knowledge sharing across Energy and Natural Resources Division and KLJ as a whole
  • Lead specific process development, lean processes, and innovation
  • Supervisory responsibilities for group members and support staff including hiring, promoting, terminations, performance reviews, and training



  • A Bachelor’s degree in civil or electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required
  • A PE is required
  • Experience level is a minimum of 10 or more years in transmission line design (69kV-500 kV) utilizing PLS-CADD
  • Knowledge of transmission line engineering including, conductors, hardware, insulation, structures, foundations and electrical principles is required
  • Successful project and staff management experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles


  • Project and/or staff management experience is preferred


Hours and Travel

This position requires the individual work 40 or more hours per week with approximately 80% of the time spent in the office and 20% in the field.
