The Test Equipment and Environments Center (TE&EC) is within the Systems Integration & Test directorate at RMD. The Test Equipment and Environments Center (TE&EC) includes all of the engineering disciplines responsible for systems design & test on all Raytheon Missile Defense (RMD) products. Our engineers are responsible for all elements of the development lifecycle for test including: test requirements, test system design, flight simulations, hardware-in-the-loop, computer-in-the-loop, advanced engineering prototyping technology, flight operations for manned and unmanned vehicles, environmental testing, environmental characterization and engineering laboratory management. We are hands-on, designing with the latest technology and tools, and integrate state of the art test solutions with the most advanced engineering systems in the world.

Organization Description:

Environmental Test (ET) is an engineering organization that supports all missile programs across the Raytheon Missiles and Defense division in Tucson, AZ. The ET organization provides testing capability for every phase of the product life cycle from prototype to production. Environmental testing includes mechanical shock, electrodynamic vibration, salt fog, climatic environments such as temperature, humidity, and altitude, high temperature quartz lamp testing, structural testing, and custom instrumentation installations and data acquisition support. We are looking for candidates willing to collaborate, innovate, and become a part of our team to generate and use cutting-edge technology from design to implementation.

Job Description:

The Systems Engineer is responsible for executing a variety of environmental tests while collaborating in an integrated product team environment with fellow ET Test Engineers, ET Support Engineers, and internal engineering customers. The Systems Engineer will work within the IP team to develop the best methods for implementing tests to meet customer requirements and is responsible for all aspects of the test including test design and setup, equipment control and monitoring, and data collection and analysis. The Systems Engineer is responsible for performing troubleshooting and adjustment of both the equipment and test setup when technical issues arise.

  • Develop and verify test plans and procedures as well as review plans and procedures written by others
  • Oversee and conduct vibration/shock and temperature/altitude/humidity testing to validate models for the purposes of new product qualification, production acceptance, flight test clearance, engineering evaluations, and failure investigations
  • Oversee and conduct structural testing to validate models and ensure safety margins
  • Oversee and conduct aero-thermal heating testing using quartz lamps to simulate extreme heating environment during flight
  • Design, model, and analyze vibration and structural test fixtures
  • Assist in creating schedules and budgets
  • Implement engineering best practices to ensure testing is performed accurately and on schedule

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

This job is a multi-level requisition for Systems Engineer II or Sr Systems Engineer I based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience, responsibility and requirements for the position.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of two / four years of prior relevant experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience performing hands on vibration testing using vibration controllers such as Unholtz-Dickie, LMS, Vibration Research, Jaguar, or Crystal Instruments
  • A minimum of two (2) of experience working with two or more of the following instruments: accelerometers, force transducers, thermocouples, strain gages, load cells, or displacement transducers
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with data acquisition system (DAS), such as: Dewesoft, DEWETRON, Somat, or National Instruments LabVIEW
  • US Citizenship required

  • Strong communication skills including effective written, verbal, and listening
  • High situational awareness and ability to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience developing and evaluating requirements and able to evaluate test issues and define solutions
  • Experience developing strategies in support of organizational efficiency improvements
  • Working knowledge of test equipment troubleshooting processes

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement.
