The Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Chemical and Materials Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science at Concordia University invite applications for a tenure-track position in the field of Electrification of Transport as part of the University’s cluster hiring initiative in the area of “Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Communities and Cities”.

About the Faculty

One of Canada's most innovative Faculties, the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (ENCS) is home to about 8,500 engineering and computer science students and a faculty complement of 208 faculty members. ENCS has 3,500 graduate students enrolled in more than 15 graduate programs. The Faculty’s research profile continues to grow as it fosters multidisciplinary approaches to finding solutions to a broad range of societal challenges.


About the Departments

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has a faculty complement of 44 professors active in various areas of electrical engineering and computer engineering.  The department offers PhDs, master and bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Aerospace Engineering (Avionics).  The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering is newly established and will offer graduate programs in Chemical Engineering. Concordia University attracts high quality domestic and international students in all its programs and has stable and strong enrollment at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. 


Candidate Profile and Qualifications

Applicants shall hold a Ph.D. in a relevant Engineering discipline and shall possess teaching and research expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • §  Electric and hybrid electric vehicles in urban settings
  • §  Grid infrastructure to support electrified transport
  • §  Energy storage and power electronics for vehicles
  • §  Vehicle to grid technologies
  • §  Vehicle to home technologies
  • §  Vehicle charging technologies including wireless charging
  • §  Use of renewable energy for vehicle charging including solar power
  • §  Clean energy storage/conversion systems for vehicles including novel electrochemical power sources and electrochemical conversion devices
  • §  Advanced electrochemical energy materials
  • §  Electrocatalysis for energy storage/conversion systems
  • §  Integration of electrified transport into the built environment.


The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to the supervision of MASc and PhD students, and to excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.  She/he will conduct independent scholarly research, attract strong external funding and demonstrate industrial application of their research activities.  Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, preferably in the Province of Quebec is essential. The language of instruction at Concordia is English; however, knowledge of French is an asset.

Subject to budgetary approval, we anticipate filling this position, normally at the rank of Assistant Professor, for August 1, 2018. Appointments at a more senior level may also be considered. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
