Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) Operations Engineering (OpsEng) provides premier engineering and manufacturing support expertise to enable on-time, lowest cost hardware delivery with performance and reliability that exceed customer expectations. OpsEng executes across all phases of a Program including proposal capture, process development, transition to production, and production support.

Operations Engineering's engagement with RMD products is not just limited to RMD manufacturing sites. We support our large supplier network and international builds with deployment of engineers. These engineers help to resolve supplier issues before they come into RMD factories; as well as helping to integrate Major End Items (MEIs) at domestic and international sites.

Manufacturing engineering, MfgE, which is part of the Operations Engineering Directorate, operates primarily at the 1.8 million square foot factory in Andover, MA. Our vertically integrated facility develops advanced technologies to manufacture everything from atoms to arrays - Radio Frequency (RF) components, Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs), electronic subassemblies, advanced radars, and more. Engineers are able to take advantage of the wide range of capabilities and strategic discriminators we leverage to design and manufacture our systems.

Job Description:
Manufacturing Engineers develop and improve manufacturing processes by studying products and manufacturing methods. They analyze product specifications to determine appropriate designs and processes that support these customer requirements. You would apply your skills to develop, test, modify, and create solutions through a collaborative effort with various teams. While at Raytheon, you can also expect to get Raytheon Six Sigma certification as you complete a complex continuous improvement project with real impact on our operations.

This position is a co-op position from approximately July to December 2021. This position is for 1st shift.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Developing Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, labor standards, tool and fixture designs
  • Supporting daily manufacturing areas with process troubleshooting, incorporation of engineering changes into the MDP
  • Dispositioning non-conforming material with root cause and corrective action analysis as required
  • Driving Continuous Improvement through process improvements to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to assemblers, automate, reduce costs (both direct and indirect) using Six Sigma principles and data driven decision making
  • Providing real-time technical support to manufacturers and suppliers both in-house and external.
  • Leading corrective action investigations to prevent recurrence

Required Education/Skills:
  • Currently pursuing Bachelors or Masters degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PPT, Project, Word)
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

Desired Skills:
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent organizational skills with fine attention to detail
  • Knowledge and ability to apply six sigma principles and techniques
  • Technical drawing interpretation, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) knowledge
  • Proficiency with CAD solid modeling tools (preference for CREO/ProE)
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to work across disciplines
  • Active DoD security clearance (confidential or secret)
  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. 3.0 cumulative GPA desired
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles
