We have an opening for a Chemistry and Materials Technologist with a background in one or more of the following areas: micro-electro-mechanical-devices (MEMS), semiconductor, micro/nano-fabrication processes, microfluidic devices, chemical/biological devices and electronic devices. You will provide technical support to engineers and senior technical personnel for micro-fabrication scientific methodologies and processes, characterization, experimental development, data collection, and testing. These positions are in the Manufacturing Engineering Section (MES) of the Materials Engineering Division (MED), within the Engineering Directorate

- Provide general technical microfabrication support in one or more of the following areas: thin film deposition, plasma etching, wet chemistries, photolithography.
- Responsible for the safe and effective operation, testing, maintenance, and calibration of major scientific instruments and apparatus.
- Participate in design modifications for moderately complex experiments or processes.
- Measure, test, and analyze basic materials and substances following standard, and at times unique, procedures and techniques.
- Use analytical instruments such as microscopes, SEM, profilometers, and other analytical equipment.
- Work in a Class 100 Cleanroom.
- Maintain a detailed notebook of laboratory processes and procedures.
- Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Acquire and analyze moderately complex experimental data and maintaining laboratory notebooks.
- Prepare summary reports, report results, identifying problems, and suggesting solutions for advanced technical problems.
- Develop processes, procedures, standard operating procedures, and qualification testing.
- Solve complex technical problems and make decisions that often require original solutions or modification of established guidelines, techniques, and procedures.

- Associate degree in Microtechnology, Chemistry/Materials, Electronics or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
- General understanding of chemistry, materials science, as applied to specific applications.
- Intermediate skills and experience in photolithography, sputtering/ebeam of materials, and plasma etching including using and operating a variety of instruments and scientific equipment.
- Intermediate skills and experience analyzing basic experimental data and maintaining accurate laboratory notebooks.
- Experience working in a clean room environment as well as experience interpreting and utilizing laboratory equipment.
- Proficient computer skills including knowledge of standard software and database programs.
- Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills and abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and a strong ability to work with a team. Also, able to work effectively with all levels of management, technical, engineering, and scientific staff.
- Advanced specialized experience in microfabrication, photolithography, sputtering/ ebeam of materials, and plasma etching including troubleshooting operational and functional deficiencies in equipment and instruments.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering, chemistry and/or material science including analysis of moderately complex data and maintenance of accurate laboratory notebooks.

- Experience with LabVIEW or similar data acquisition systems.
- Experience with CAD

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
