The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is looking for Technical Writer to support the Command, Control, and Communication Division (C3D) within the Sensor and Electromagnetic Application Laboratory (SEAL) in Smyrna, Georgia. The selected candidate will help develop written information about the projects Enterprise system that aids in documenting and communicating to the sponsor and other stakeholders of the design and implementation of the Enterprise System.

Job Duties

  • Conduct interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation
  • Provide recommendations and ideas to the technical documentation team, project leads, and management on best work practices, workflow, presentation, structure, and organization of materials by developing new work processes and methods
  • Analyze Enterprise System requirements to determine types of documents needed
  • Collaborate with project teams (DevOps, Security, DataOps, Business Analyst, and Operations) to collect and interpret technical information
  • Research technical concepts to fully understand products and propose content to the teams
  • Develop technical design documents, architecture documents, infrastructure document, network documents, security documents and develops policy and procedures
  • Edit written documentation developed by other team members for consistency
  • Maintain and update existing documentation with new content
  • Meets with technical team and managers to learn about specific project needs
  • Supports technical team with developing diagrams for documents and briefings
  • Research proposal topics and customer base to achieve the best reception
  • Write proposal content, including technical sections, management, and staffing sections, resumes, executive summaries, and past performance
  • Review and edit sections drafted by other contributors

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, System Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, Business, or a related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer or similar role
  • Ability to translate highly technical information into easily understandable information for customers
  • Excellent written skills in English
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in technical writing of software documentation
  • Professional Writing or Creative Writing is a big plus
  • Background in engineering or computer science is a big plus

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
