Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking a technical project manager, technical lead, or principal investigator in Washington, D.C. to support the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division (ISRD) of the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) with current and anticipated sensor programs. The technical project manager will lead multiple sponsored research projects. Technical program management typically involves some level of hands-on technical work in addition to routine reporting, budget and schedule tracking, and team direction. ISRD’s projects focus on advanced signal processing, adaptive sensor technologies, advanced algorithms, and modeling/simulation. Applications include radar, electronic warfare, Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) and Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT) systems.

The successful candidate will be able to lead to a team of multi-disciplinary engineers and scientists to achieve project objectives and milestones. The candidate must be resourceful, take initiative, and be able to self-manage within set expectations. The successful candidate will be able to understand the electromagnetic, physical and signal processing effects in sensor systems to help quantify and predict system level performance as part of sponsored research in close collaboration with other scientists and engineers. The candidate will be involved in a team environment consisting of GTRI, Government, Academia, and Industry partners. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required. Additionally, the successful candidate will be familiar with proposal writing for government sponsored research and development (R&D) and will be able to develop or contribute to R&D proposals.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December, 2019
  • M&S experience in MATLAB, Mathematica, C, Python or similar languages
  • Prior experience as technical contributor (scientist, engineer or researcher) on system development teams,
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams through system design, development, testing, and/or deployment.
  • Experience with basics of project management including project cost estimation, budget tracking, reporting and other routine management tasks, and
  • Must currently possess a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with radar, RF, optics, or other sensor systems or communication systems,
  • Experience summarizing technical research for non-technical persons,
  • Prior experience with effects based signals analysis and/or physics-based modeling and simulation is highly desired,
  • Experience with development of engineering programs via networking, briefings for potential sponsors, publications and other means
  • Experience in generation of white papers and proposals for program development and bidding, and
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
