Job Description

The position is based on-site with the project sponsor at Lackland AFB, Texas. 

The Technical Liaison Software Engineer will work closely with researchers, analysts, and a wide array of program stakeholders to co-develop, test, and integrate high quality automated systems. These systems will work with massive data-sets, integrate expert systems and machine learning techniques to solve hybrid cyber-security, electronic warfare, and intelligence analysis problems.

The liaison will coordinate various on-site and reach-back activities with Atlanta-based developers and perform the following duties:

  • Conduct applied cyberspace technology research; develop research and engineering strategies for mitigation of risk in systems and technology programs; design and develop hardware and software tools, models and prototypes; perform technology and engineering analysis to include systems engineering and systems of systems engineering analysis supporting the design, development, interoperability, exploitability and testing of hardware and software at the component, subsystem, and system level. 
  • Develop rapid cutting-edge cyber solutions to respond to advanced persistent threats. Design platforms and tools that enable distributed and on-site cyberspace signatures analysis, sensor performance, and system response and conduct testing and integration with network sensors and training as required.
  • Support research in cyber, electronic warfare (EW), and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) convergence, which might be defined as an “engagement event” that includes both free-space electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) energy and wired electronic networks. Provide recommendations for specified areas of research and development and identify and forecast cyber threat capability gaps and how the US government should posture itself to counter these threats.
  • Provide analytical assessments, recommendations, and road maps that will be instrumental in helping senior leaders define requirements and make informed acquisition decisions.
  • Provide instructional training, with appropriate instructional materials, to government employees on all developmental, analytical, research, tactics, techniques, and procedural methodologies that are developed.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Physics and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Physics and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years professional experience in the software engineering domain. Concurrent experience in cyber security and/or intelligence analysis domain within the DoD/IC is a plus.
  • Knowledge of at least two of the following: Python, Java, C languages, R
  • An understanding of cyber security issues and/or intelligence analysis is also required.
  • Candidate must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current, industry-recognized certifications (CISSP, GIAC) or the ability to become certified within one year of hire is a plus.
  • Experience with Machine Learning tools and techniques like SciPy, Tensorflow, Caffe, etc., is a plus
  • Experience with the Hadoop or Apache Spark ecosystem is a plus.
