We have an opening for an Electronics Technologist/Senior Electronics Technologist. You will provide technical support in the Target Area Science & Engineering for technical staff of the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate. NIF the worlds largest and most energetic laser facility and is a 24/7 operational facility that may occasionally require shift flexibility to accomplish goals. This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Provide general assembly, fabrication, development, and make routine commitments involving system designs.
- Work from sketches, 1-line drawings, block diagrams, electronic schematics, verbal or written instructions and under general supervision.
- Update procedures and processes for repairing, calibrating, fielding, and maintaining equipment and systems.
- Perform maintenance, operations, repairs, and upgrades of existing systems.
- Diagnose, debug, test, evaluate, design, upgrade, maintain, and repair moderately complex electronics and laser systems.
- Acquire and analyze data and test results using known performance parameters to report results and identify problems.
- Contribute to moderately complex preliminary design concepts and engineering decision process.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In addition, at the 531.3 Level
- Acquire and analyze complex data and test results using known performance parameters to report results and identify complex problems.
- Establish system parameters using advanced electronics circuitry, scientific knowledge, engineering principles, and mathematical calculations. Write or interpret specifications used in crafting, maintaining, and calibrating complex electronic systems, chassis, or components.
- Lead daily work scope activities of other technologists.

Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in electronics technology or equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
- Experience with fabrication of cables, test boxes, and fixturing.
- Intermediate skills, knowledge, and abilities designing, testing, analyzing, maintaining, and repairing moderately complex electronic circuits and systems.
- Ability to apply intermediate electronics and/or electro-optic knowledge to a breadth of applications and/or systems.
- Experience in safe work and business practices.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to occasionally work overtime and/or weekends as needed.

In addition, at the 531.3 Level
- Advanced understanding and experience in electronics technology and background in both theory and design and ability to apply electronic knowledge to a breadth of electronic circuits and systems.
- Advanced level technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, feedback, and teamwork skills and abilities, and experience providing technical direction to others.

Desired Qualifications
- Intermediate skills with opto-mechanical assemblies, precision laser alignment and tolerancing.
- Experience with scripting and automation software packages (Python, MATLAB, etc.)

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
