MITREs Systems Performance Engineering Department is charged with considering the characteristics of systems in all aspects including process, data, systems of systems, testing, and specification.  The department must deliver technology, and intellectual solutions to address our sponsors toughest needs. 
 
MITRE seeks an experienced Systems Engineer (SE) to be a group leader for the SE V&V aspect of our work. The successful candidate will be a key part of the management team and a thought leader within the department. This position will be responsible for serving as a direct supervisor for 7 to 9 staff members. This position will lead the development of Systems Engineering Verification and Validation related capabilities and will work closely with department members and Division Capability Leads for Agile, Model Based and SoS in a collaborative working environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, results-oriented professional. Key Functions
You will provide thought leadership and problem solving for government customers in collaboration with stakeholders from private, federal, state and local sectors. Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Lead and contribute to a team of researchers that crosses technical disciplines and centers.
  • Understand research and sponsor needs to design an appropriate strategy to fill them
  • Participate in hiring of Technical Center staff
  • Contribute to a major sponsor using Test, Verification or validation methods.
  • Mentoring of the junior systems engineering staff
  • Sponsor Relations and Business Development
Required Qualifications
 
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics or relevant technical discipline, and 7 or more years experience; or Masters with 5 or more years experience; or PhD with 3 or more years experience.  Documented success in applying one or more of the following capabilities in complex environments:
  • Assisting government sponsors by applying rigorous analysis of the performance characteristics of systems including analyses of current systems, identification of the impact of potential business process or system enhancements, and optimization of design and architecture choices.
  • Applying system level performance validation and verification mechanisms to systems and system of systems engineering problems
  • Candidate must be collaborative and able to develop and expand the community of engineers interested in the performance engineering space to ensure maximum reach and impact.
  • Candidate should be capable of providing vision, gaining consensus, establishing a plan, and motivating team members towards productive outcomes. Candidate should be familiar with managing projects/programs and project management tools.
  • Interest in complex multi-disciplinary problems and ability to work with colleagues across engineering domains.
  • Candidate will be responsible for developing T&E/V&V business need across programs/portfolios and working with staff to grow a set of capabilities to support these needs. Previous experience of building teams, technical work programs (business development) is essential
 Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with analysis of data to prepare recommendations for SE measures and metrics.
  • Successful candidate must be a skilled communicator who establishes credibility with management and staff.
  • Familiarity with test tools/frameworks and V&V tools
