Job Description

This job is for a full time research faculty position in the Methods and Analysis Development Branch (MADB), part of the Systems Engineering Research Division (SERD).

THE GROUP:
Our research group is predominantly focused on the research, development, and application of new systems engineering tools and methods for decision support, concept of employment analysis, systems architecture, and conceptual design for complex systems.

We create systems models (both qualitative and quantitative) that aid our sponsors in the early stages of systems design to determine the best architecture to achieve a desired operational capability.

In addition to systems design, we provide capability-based strategic decision making and portfolio planning expertise to aid a variety of customers in mapping their high level goals and objectives to a set of both feasible and viable, actionable alternatives.

THE POSITION:
Experience with modeling and simulation of complex systems (e.g., agent-based modeling, discrete event simulation, DEVS, systems dynamics).

Systems engineering experience but a background in research, design and analysis in any science or engineering related field accepted. Proficient in the use of SAS JMP, R, or Python's numeric and data analytics, and simulation libraries (e.g., numpy, scipy, pandas, tensorflow, luigi, simpy, mesa).

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist 

  • A Master’s degree  in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist 

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and  eleven (11) years' relevant full-time experience; or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematicsand seven (7) years' relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have some experience with some of the following: modeling and simulation of complex systems (e.g., agent-based modeling, discrete event simulation, DEVS, systems dynamics), numerical optimization, statistical analysis, uncertainty quantification, tradespace exploration. Experience in systems engineering with a background in research, design and analysis in a field of science or engineering if strongly preferred. Proficiency in the use of SAS JMP, R, or Python's numeric and data analytics, and simulation libraries (e.g., numpy, scipy, pandas, tensorflow, luigi, simpy, mesa) are considered strong benefits.

Active SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance preferred.

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
