Job Purpose

Systems Engineers lead technical teams through systems definition and requirements engineering, design synthesis, and systems analysis and the design, implementation, operation and technical management of systems projects.

Project/Unit Description

The Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking an experienced BMDS analyst to fill a position for the Data Analytics Branch within the Air and Missile Defense Systems Division in Huntsville, AL. The successful candidate will work in a team environment with software developers and system analysts to evaluate Ballistic Missile Defense Systems (BMDS) performance for Missile Defense Agency (MDA) flight, ground, and digital test events to support performance and capability assessment. Located in Huntsville, Alabama, ASL conducts world-class applied research in system modeling, simulation, analysis, testing, evaluation, and software development to support the government sponsors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all technical aspects of a product or system design including directing multiple lab resources for a large-scale product or system deployments.
  • Manage sub-contractor resources supporting all system engineering areas (definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation).
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of high complexity. Define/refine internal and external interfaces.
  • Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes.

Additional Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for activities including but not limited to:

  • Provide technical expertise for data analysis of BMDS flight, ground, and digital test events for system performance evaluation.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and refine analysis requirements/concepts, develop analysis capabilities, and present analysis results to leadership.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years prior experience in the development/analysis of the MDA GMD systems with detailed knowledge of associated architectures and technologies
  • The candidate must be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and be capable of working in a multi-tasking team environment
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience working in a classified environment
  • Experience with Agile Processes
  • Experience using Python for data analysis
  • Experience using Tableau for data visualization and analysis
  • Experience using database systems for data analysis (SQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)

  • 9 years of related experience with Bachelors degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field of study 
  • 7 years of related experience with a Masters degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science,
  • or a related field of study 
  • 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science,
  • or a related field of study   

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Require

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
