Apple is seeking a Systems Engineer with a deep understanding of system related administration tasks to join our Global Network Services team! We need someone who understands network virtualization tasks and how to handle qualification/certification and performance requirements of the solutions. They will handle network automation and work through all aspects of DevOps functionality. We are also looking for them to collaborate with other systems and software defined infrastructure groups in providing scaling and high performance solutions. They should be able to handle all system administration tasks and automate most of the routine tasks, in a highly dynamic lab environment.

Key Qualifications

  • Full knowledge of System administration/management and automation tasks
  • We are looking for experience handling multiple projects with different levels of involvement from defining, designing, creating, testing and operationalizing solutions
  • Proven experience with testing traffic generation equipment and applications
  • Working knowledge of server hardware and upcoming technologies
  • Solid understanding of implementation tasks for various virtual networking functions
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Ability to incorporate new technologies like gRPC, gNMI open-config etc for lab server/system maintenance

Description

As an Optical network/system certification engineer, you will be working closely with the architecture and the operation team with the goal of defining, building the process of certification of the optical systems/components. In addition, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the industry partners to learn and drive new technologies!

The ideal candidate is a self motivated, strong communicator with the ability to work effectively across multiple organizations. We are looking for someone to handle multiple projects simultaneously and maintain lab test equipments and related devices.

We expect a candidate in this role to participate in projects and perform day to day activities including, but not limited to:
- System administration tasks including Kickstart, iLo/IPMI management, environment setup, implementation tasks of DPDK, OVS, XDP type of environment, and working with Linux and other OS for performance tuning and scaled functionality
- VNF virtual networking functions related to KVM and other hypervisor technologies, and augmenting existing systems with new hardware and certifying new hardware technologies in storage, networking and memory aspects of servers.
- Network automation and knowledge of Net Devops functionality in addition to Devops support for lab systems and lab setup
- Providing documentation and technical specifications for planning and implementing new or upgrades of Server infrastructure

Education & Experience
- BS or MS in engineering, or equivalent work experience

Additional Requirements

  • - Basic understanding of IP networking/routing and service provider networks is a plus
  • - Kernel level debugging and understanding of performance related issues is a plus
  • - Documentation and presentation skills are preferred
