Job Summary:

The System Design & Architecture (SD&A) Directorate is the central focus for Mission Systems Integration activities within RMD, responsible for defining customer needs, functional and product architecture, requirements definition and decomposition, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), system performance, and System Security Engineering (SSE).

The team in Fullerton, CA, is seeking a highly skilled Systems Architect with extensive subject matter expertise in computer networking and data communications, to include experience in: Network Architecture, Enterprise Wide Area Network (WAN)/Local Area Network (LAN), Satellite communications (ground communications equipment), Radio communications, Data Links, Tactical and Long-haul communications, Software Defined Network (SDN), and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)/Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

The Systems Architect must leverage multiple skillsets in areas such as system architecture, computer networking, and data communications. This position requires strong capabilities to drive technical solutions for multi-disciplined technical teams deploying and supporting telecommunications solutions.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • Responsible for defining and designing system solutions that meet system requirements and customer needs across pursuits and programs.
  • Support all phases of the engineering lifecycle including systems analysis, operational concept development, proposal writing, requirements development and maintenance, conducting trade studies, architecture development, design, implementation, integration and verification.
  • Develop and present technical documentation including customer briefings, operational concepts, proposals, requirements, trade studies, architecture and design.
  • Interface with stakeholders from technical management, systems, software and hardware engineering.
  • Frequent interaction with customers throughout the engineering lifecycle including acquisition, execution, and operational phases.
  • Travel up to 10% of the year Outside of Continental United States (OCONUS), and up to 10% of the year within Continental United States (CONUS), as required and based on customer needs.
This position can be a P3 or P4, based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM). An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience. A Ph.D. can account for 5 years of experience as required for this position.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in computer networking and data communications, to include any combination of
    • Satellite communications (ground communications equipment)
    • Radio communications
    • Data Links
    • Tactical and Long-haul communications
    • Software Defined Network (SDN)
    • Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)/Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
  • Systems engineering experience in computer networking and data communication systems, to include any combination of
    • Network Architecture
    • Enterprise Wide Area Network (WAN) / Local Area Network (LAN)
  • Experience in data communication systems architecture, design, requirements development, and performing systems analysis.
  • Experience documenting architecture using enterprise architectural tools (such as: Unified Modeling Language (UML), Rational System Architect).
  • Experience in generating and presenting technical documentation, including customer briefings, and specifications.
  • Experience in writing Interface Design Descriptions (IDDs) and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • The ability to Travel up to 10% of the year Outside of Continental United States (OCONUS), and up to 10% of the year within Continental United States (CONUS), as required and based on customer needs.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Experience with Classified Networks and Cross-Domain Solutions.
  • Experience with military systems and Department of Defense (DOD) Architecture Frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Agile scrum methodology.
  • Current US Secret security clearance.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities, strong written and oral communication skills, solid judgment, reasoning, and decision making abilities.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple competing priorities and deadline constraints requiring rapid turnarounds.
  • Proven ability to interface with customers and lead technical solutions to complex user requirements.
