Job Description:

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) has opportunities for research system engineers within the Sensor and Electromagnetic Application Laboratory (SEAL) in Smyrna, Georgia. The mission of SEAL’s System Engineering Group is to perform analysis, architecture design and engineering functions for complex systems, which includes sensor performance, signal processing, electronic warning, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems deployed on land, air and sea. The Systems Engineering team has responsibilities for:

  • Systems analysis;
  • Architecture design;
  • Sensor and architecture modeling;
  • Generation of functional requirements;
  • Requirements traceability;
  • Trade analysis;
  • Interface definition across subsystems/components and other external systems;
  • Algorithm definition and development;
  • Modeling and Simulation (M&S) of sensors and systems; and,
  • System performance prediction.

The successful candidate will be involved in a team environment consisting of GTRI and Government engineers. This position also requires good communication skills in order to convey analysis, design and trade spaces to the customer and users, and to assist in the description of required current and future capabilities. The candidate will also be required to write technical papers to assist the project in the need for new research and capabilities.


Required Skills:

  • Good problem solving ability,

Desired Skills:

  • Existing secret clearance, or the ability to obtain an interim clearance within 30 days and full clearance thereafter
  • Intelligence community experience
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • System Engineering experience in a DoD environment
  • Experience in defining engineering products (e.g., requirements, interface documents, performance analysis and DoDAF diagrams)


  • BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science


  • Experience in various phases of System Engineering including:
    • Complex programs that involved hardware, software, communications and networking
    • System Engineering methodology and toolsets

Other: Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
