We are seeking an Instrumentation and Controls engineers to apply advanced knowledge of industry and DOE codes, standards, and practices in support of ongoing operations, maintenance, upgrades, and modifications of facility systems. You will be responsible for the design, evaluation, analysis, configuration management, monitoring, troubleshooting, and upgrade of facility systems. You will apply advanced technical knowledge in Instrumentation and Controls engineering to develop conceptual ideas into workable and cost-effective solutions that maintain facilities supporting research and investigations of nuclear materials.This position is in the Nuclear Materials Technology Program (NMTP) with the Superblock System Engineering group.

Essential Duties
-Maintain working knowledge and ability to interpret industry codes and standards, understand the facility safety basis of assigned vital safety systems, and train and advise facility operations and maintenance personnel on the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of facility systems.
-Develop methods, perform field inspections, interact with maintenance and operations personnel, and review operational and test data to monitor, track, and trend system operational functions and use sound engineering judgement to provide recommendations for repairs, modifications and improvements of complex facility systems.
-Utilize advanced technical engineering skills to develop detailed designs, drawings, calculations, bills of materials, presentations, and work planning documentation to support system maintenance and improvement projects including evaluating system capacities, planning sequencing of work, and ensuring constructability.
-Plan work, sequence tasks, coordinate work, procure hardware and tools, track and report task status, and perform field inspections in support of the successful completion of facility maintenance and improvement projects on schedule and within budget while complying with quality assurance and work control processes.
-Provide technical input to others on complex design requirements and identify and evaluate potential system impacts for projects affecting facility systems while complying with LLNL procedures, work control system processes, and DOE requirements.
-Identify system or design issues and lead others in the development of solutions to complex multidisciplinary problems in an industrial facility environment while maintaining awareness of institutional safety standards and work control processes.
-Maintain a thorough understanding of assigned facility systems, conduct assessments and reviews of system health reports, and maintain and improve system configuration and documentation in accordance with DOE and departmental procedures and practices.
-Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
-Bachelors Degree in engineering or equivalent level of education and significant related technical experience.
-Advanced knowledge and experience interpreting and implementing engineering standards and practices related to facility system design and evaluation.
-Significant experience developing project scope, evaluating options, determining design criteria and preparing and reviewing design and construction specifications, calculations, and drawings that support efficient and successful job completion.
-Experience providing design support, evaluation, status update, and work coordination of multiple projects simultaneously while meeting budget and schedule deadlines.
-Experience in supporting the operation, troubleshooting, inspection, and maintenance of facility systems or components.
-Experience with identifying, evaluating, and effectively communicating issues and recommendations to management, engineering, and construction personnel.
-Experience identifying and solving complex technical problems, providing constructability feedback, and fielding construction questions in a timely, practical, and cost-effective manner.
-Advanced verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively collaborate and interact with all levels of scientific, technical, construction, maintenance, and administrative personnel.
Desired Qualifications
-Experience developing work instructions and safety documentation in support of facility operations, maintenance, or modifications.
-Experience with design and construction or maintenance of Instrumentation and Controls systems in Industrial facility environments.
-Experience interpreting and implementing procedures, practices and other DOE and regulatory standards related to nuclear facility operation and safety basis documents.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
