The Mechanical Products Team (MPT) is responsible for mechanical design, analysis and test of all sensor and effector products across the RMD portfolio. Our vision is to be the premier team for mechanical design and development through excellent people, collaboration, and innovation.

The MPT is comprised of Hardware Configuration Management (CM), Software Configuration Management (SWCM), and Data Management, Engineering Support and Execution (DEX).

The Software Configuration Management (SWCM) department follows the basic principles of Configuration Management. SWCM establishes and maintains integrity for all digital products throughout the entire life cycle. The Software Configuration Management Department provides innovative solutions through automation, continuous improvement and a skilled workforce providing support for all digital computing products including embedded software, firmware/configurable logic, test equipment, simulation, Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and tools.

The Section Leader collaborates with Program Managers, Directors, Chief Engineers and Integrated Product Team Leads for assigned programs to ensure that SWCM is represented within the Mission Area. As with all Section Leaders in SWCM, the successful candidate for this Software Configuration Management section will be accountable and responsible for:

Technical Role and Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring the team meets program cost and schedule commitments
  • Supporting mission area and/or program reviews as the SWCM Subject Matter Expert (SME)
  • SWCM mission area / program POC for discipline issues and/or road blocks
  • Identifying and elevating, when required, technical execution risks (includes technical discipline, technical performance, cost and schedule performance) to program and functional management
  • Ensuring the team is knowledgeable of and demonstrates disciplined process and tool adherence
  • Utilization of measures that provide program and functional management insight into the health of the team's technical execution
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Timely, honest, unbiased performance evaluation, and career development discussions (including plans for employee growth/improvement)
  • Mentor/coach, technically and personally, to ensure employee success
  • Creating a diverse, collaborative team and providing an open environment for innovation and growth
  • Effective communication, both with the team and, horizontally and vertically across the organization
  • Identifying appropriate training opportunities to ensure technical execution and growth for the team
  • Establishing team manpower needs and providing qualified candidates for programs in the section
  • Ensuring the team understands and follows proper department documented requirements and procedures
  • Working with the section and SWCM Leadership team on goals, strategy and innovative solutions for customer and company initiatives
  • Recognizing and providing appropriate team and individual rewards and recognition
  • Leading by example by demonstrating Raytheons values and behaviors
U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position needs a U.S. Security Clearance as of day 1 of employment

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:
  • US Citizenship
  • Active DoD clearance
  • Bachelors Degree in engineering disciplines, natural or physical sciences, mathematics, physics, computer science, management information systems, or related technical degrees
  • A minimum of six (6) years SWCM (software configuration management), Information Technology (IT), and/or development experience
  • Experience with version control, change management, and/or agile planning tool(s), in particular, experience with IBM Rational Synergy, Rational Team Concert, and/or Azure DevOps Server (ADS) - Git preferred
  • Solid proficiency in Windows and Unix/Linux Operating Systems
Desired Skills:
  • Experience with using an automated Configuration Management (CM) / Change Control / Agile Planning / Release/Archive tools (i.e. ADS-Git, Windchill PDM) to establish software configurations, perform software builds and releases
  • Working knowledge of the SEI Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and SEI Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and experience with SWCM process definition and implementation
  • Strong knowledge and experience with DevSecOps, Continuous Improvement, Continuous Integration and/or Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) concepts
  • Experience with automation and scripting languages (i.e. Perl, Kshell, batch, Python, Ruby, Jenkins, Chef, YAML, etc.)
  • Experience with PC software applications to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Previous experience leading teams of 5-20 employees in a matrix environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of solving complex problems, sharing knowledge and documenting work
This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process.
