The Low Voltage Power Products Department is seeking exceptional candidates to further the art of high performance motor drives. Opportunities are circuit and control electronics design of miniaturized servo applications, including drive control systems for missile fins/canards, vectoring rocket motor nozzles, positioning seeker head gimbals, and actuating gaseous valves for divert and attitude control systems. Emphasis is on miniaturized electronics in the 100W to 20kW motor drive range. Raytheon Technologies uses both brushed and brushless motors and employs the various PWM switching methods to minimize size and achieve maximum torque/speed performance.

JOB DESCRIPTION/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design solutions to complex or challenging technical problems
Compose objective, quantifiable trade studies to guide critical architectural decisions affecting the performance of other systems and subsystems
Design motor control drives used in servo control applications.
Create analytical models (SPICE, MAST, VHDL-AMS, MATLAB, Excel, etc.) which prove compliance to performance specifications
Direct printed circuit layout of high speed designs.
Understand control loops and stability of linear control systems.
Serve as technical lead for major design efforts involving multiple engineers across multiple disciplines. Generate and/or compile all required analysis and documentation verifying compliance with program and performance requirements.
Generate project plans, time phasing and resource loading
Provide accountability to program and functional leadership for technical execution on time and within baseline budget
Present technical briefings to management, program officials, and technical staff. These must be well-prepared, with adequate data and clear messaging.
Liaison between various internal organizations at staff levels above your pay grade, including but not limited to: program managers, product line chief engineers, and executive engineering staff
Lead small technical teams to deliver superior solutions on-time and within budget.
Note: This position can be a Sr. Electrical Engineer II or Principal Electrical Engineer based upon the applicants qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Must be able to obtain and maintain Department of Defense issued Secret Security clearance
Electrical Engineering Bachelors or Masters degree with 2 years of applied experience (Mathematics and Physics degrees also acceptable)
Minimum of 10 years of experience in electronics design with emphasis on analog design, power design and motor drive design
Printed circuit layout techniques for high frequency, low noise circuits
Design experience with servo control systems, including drive electronics, feedback signals, and sensing
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with co-workers, subordinates, suppliers, management, and customers in a team environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong experience implementing motor drives and controls techniques
Experience creating and briefing complex technical presentations to executive leadership and customers
Experience leading multi-disciplined technical teams
Demonstrable ability to design using microcontrollers, DSPs and FPGAs
Digitally implemented motor drive experience
REQUIRED EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/ATTRIBUTES
Must have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited University, with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience. Accredited Mathematics and Physics BS degrees may also qualify with relevant experience.
Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a Department of Defense issued Secret Security Clearance.
Must be a self-starter, a quick learner, be able to function in a dynamic environment, and have good time management skills.
Must have strong teaming skills, and good communication skills.
Must be customer-focused.
DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Design experience with BLDC, PMSM, and brushed motor drive controls
Circuit design experience with PWM drives used for motors with voltages >200 VDC and up to 100 Amps
Knowledge and application of advanced motor control theory, such as state space design, space vector control, sensorless control, and electronics miniaturization.
