An excellent opportunity for very senior level System Administrators to apply their Linux/Unix expertise to important projects and initiatives to upgrade and standardize the Cybersecurity of our classified computer networks.

As a Sr. Cyber Defense Technologist II or Principal Cyber Defense Technologist you will be a member of the Cyber Solutions Team (CST), as an innovator for technical and policy solutions, involving the security of information systems across the Raytheon Missile & Defense (RMD) organization. As a member of the development team, you will be responsible for the design, creation, and implementation of cybersecurity solutions to meet security controls determined by the information system requirements. These solutions boost the overall security posture, drive standardization, and efficiency of system administrators in alignment with enterprise-level security standards.

This role will allow you to collaborate with a diverse team to support fast-paced, critical programs with classified information system capabilities. Success in this role means you are able to develop, implement, and maintain secure, cost-efficient environments across various program spaces. Program teams rely on your collaboration and guidance to define computing requirements and create end-to-end solutions to solve complex IT infrastructure problems.

This Position can be filled at either a Senior II (G09) or Principal (G10) level commensurate on experience and qualifications at the hiring manager's discretion.
This role will preferably be a full time remote telecommute position with very infrequent travel to our RMD New England Locations or Tucson, AZ sites as business needs dictate. For those who would need to relocate, please note that capped budget relocation is available to the selected applicant if they are eligible per company policy. Budget amount to be discussed at the appropriate stage of the hiring process.

Minimum Required Skills / Certifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, Engineering or STEM related field of study and 6+ years directly related Information Security experience or a related Master degree and 4 years of directly related experience or in Lieu of a degree additional years of experience. In lieu of degree, a minimum of 8 years applicable technical experience will be required in addition to the required experience for the level of this role (i.e; 8 + 6 or 14 years for Senior level II role in lieu of degree).
  • Eligibility to obtain a US Dept. of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance. Except in rare cases, only US Citizens are eligible to obtain US Security clearances.
  • Ability to obtain required Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification) within 1 year of hire date.
  • Experience in administration of UNIX/Linux operating systems, including Solaris and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, or 8.
  • Solid Experience with Linux scripting and/or infrastructure-as-code technologies (Bash, CHEF, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform).
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to explain difficult concepts to a variety of skill levels.
  • Experience to identify system risks and propose, design, and develop risk mitigation solutions to harden systems.
  • Experience to assess system compliance against standards and IT Security policies and regulatory requirements
    Highly Desired Skills / Certifications:
  • Master degree in IT or STEM related field
  • Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification and an Operating System Certification)
  • Direct working experience with NISPOM, JAFAN, JSIG, DFARS, or DAAPM processes
  • Experience with and knowledge of the process to implement and assess NIST SP 800-171, 171a, and NIST SP 800-53 controls
  • Experience with Technologies/Concepts:
    • Networking Concepts: Ports, Protocols, and Services (DNS, DHCP, TCP/UDP)
    • Authentication Methods: Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, SSSD, Centrify
    • OS Encryption Technology: BitLocker, LUKS
    • Patch Management: WSUS, SCCM, YUM
    • Anti-malware: Symantec, McAfee
    • Virtualization: VMware Workstation, vSphere, ESXi
    • Containers: Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, DoD Platform One
    • Insider Threat Detection / Data Loss Prevention
    • Storage Solutions: NAS, SAN
    • Technical Writing
    • Agile Development
    • Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Experience in administration of Windows operating systems, including Windows 7, 10, Server 2008, 2012, 2016, or 2019

    This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization and a US Secret Security Clearance.
