Job Title: Sr. Mechanical Engineer 

Reports to: Sr. Director of Engineering 

 

Department: Engineering

Salary/Hourly: Salary (FLSA Exemption: Administrative) 

 

Location: San Diego, CA 

Pay Range: $85 - $95K 

 

 

Summary 

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will assist with all aspects of antenna design work related to embedded and external antenna products for Cellular/LTE, WiFi, 5G (sub 6GHz and/or mm-wave) applications.  They will be required to learn and know every step involved in the build process from conceptual design to final assembly and installation characteristics.  This position will work closely with antenna engineers, field-application engineers and customers to understand design and test requirements and specifications.  

 

Essential Job Functions 

  • Preform conceptual and detailed level mechanical design and analysis of indoor and ruggedized outdoor antenna systems including antenna components, IP-related enclosures, printed circuit boards and structural elements 

  • Develop and design test plans for basic mechanical systems and conduct testing of products to verify compliance with design regulations. 

  • Assist in fabrication, assembly and testing of prototypes and customer samples.  

  • Draft production documents such as SOP’s and Quality Assurance 

  • Work closely with the design Engineering team and field-application Engineering team to identify and resolve issues related to detail part fabrication, test setup, assembly and during testing. 

  • Preform comprehensive 3D modelling and drafting. 

  • Transition products from product development to production. 

  • Thoroughly document work in an organized and detailed manner 

  • Preform reviews of mechanical test and alignment data and resolve test anomaly issues. 

  • Work with other functional groups and departments as required in the design and test development lifecycle.  Also, comprehensively work with internal/external manufacturing partners to ensure product quality meets customers requirements.

Experience 
 

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a mechanical engineer 

  • Experience in design and manufacturing of high volume commercial and/or consumer products preferably in the wireless/telecom/antenna design industry.  

  • Experience in antenna designs and material selection, antenna carrier and/or housing structural components 

  • Strong 3D CAD design skills using SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, etc. 

  • Experience with FEA thermal and structural analysis preferred 

  • Strong manufacturing process knowledge including plastic injection molding, metal forming, casting, PCBs, and electronic assembly 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, multi-tasking and meeting deadlines.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements 

  • Education level: BA/BS degree in Mechanical Engineering; Masters preferred. 

  • Knowledge of working with 3D printers, PCB cutting and circuit prototyping (such as LPKF machines), thermal chamber, vibration table, impact test equipment, drop test equipment, force gauges, calipers, micrometers and hand power tools.  

  • Requires excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills. 

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment. 

 

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands 

  • Must be able to work in a seated or standing position, for periods up to an exceeding 8.0 hours per day. 

  • Extensive use of a mouse and keyboard. 

  • Extended viewing of a computer screen. 

  • Use of a telephone. 

  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, twisting, and standing.
