The Airframes and Advanced Effectors department is seeking a senior level technical support engineer to enhance our Modeling, Design and Drafting capability. The candidate will perform a wide variety of design tasks in support of the engineering and manufacturing organizations. They will develop solutions to a variety of complex problems using established precedents and policies for guidance. The work may be performed individually, in a team environment, or in a supervisory capacity. The senior level designer will use Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems to prepare mechanical design layouts, detail and assembly drawings and models (including but not limited to packaging, mechanisms, and castings) and related documentation in conformance to appropriate program and/or customer specifications. The candidate will also be responsible for control and release of drawings/models using data management tools such as Windchill and Common PDM.


This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance within 1 year of start date. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. This position can be a salary grade level of G08 or G09 based on the candidates qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibilities required for the position


Required

  • AS in Computer Aided Design, Engineering Technology, Information Technology, or applicable degree
  • 4+ years of mechanical design experience. This may include areas such as electrical/mechanical packaging, harnessing, structures, cabling, surfacing and mechanisms
  • Advanced experience with CREO Parametric (Pro/Engineer) solid modeling CAD tool and considerable knowledge of Common PDM data management tool
  • Candidate will be able to identify and correct design, model, and drawing errors/omissions/deficiencies and recommend/implement corrective actions or improvements
  • Candidate will have a complete understanding of basic principles, theories and concepts for creation, preparation, and revision control of engineering design documentation
  • Technical knowledge sufficient to perform complex tasks such as preparation of detailed part drawings, large assemblies, castings, composites, interface drawings, various layouts for design concepts, and other high level tasks
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 1994 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ability to perform first order tolerance analysis
  • Candidate will have a full knowledge of industry practices and standards used in drafting, modeling and design development/revision
  • Technical knowledge using documentation specifications such as MIL-STD-31000, Y14.5M, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.100
  • US Citizenship with ability to obtain DoD secret clearance

Desired:
  • BS in Computer Aided Design, Engineering Technology, Information Technology, or applicable
  • 6+ years of mechanical design experience. This may include areas such as electrical/mechanical packaging, harnessing, structures, cabling, surfacing and mechanisms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and networking skills, ability to work well with others including customers and suppliers
  • Motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment with timely problem resolution utilizing a professional, positive, proactive attitude, strong customer focus, and a desire to help others
  • Ability to recognize roadblocks/issues early and elevate/suggest appropriate corrective action
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Raytheon Drafting Standards, Mechanical Engineering Process for documentation preparation
    • Knowledge of RMS processes and procedures
    • Machine shop and hand tools
    • Additive manufacturing capabilities
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Existing DoD Secret clearance
