The Sr. Firmware (IoT) Engineer (Embedded Software) is a key member of the dynamic team, which has a mission to develop best in class smart locks and make them as part of people’s everyday life. As an Embedded Engineer, you will be working across multiple cutting-edge technologies, developing next generation of smart locks as part of smart home devices and IoT system, with primary focus on firmware. You are required to have passion in technologies such as battery,  WIFI(6/AC/N etc.)/BLE, networking including MQTT, TCP/IP, HTTP etc., hardware/firmware security, clouding computing (AWS, Azure),  Alexa/Google Home/Apple’s Siri, data/analytics, AI, mobile apps, secure OTA etc. 

As a member of the development team, you will be leading and involved in developing new solutions, products, concepts, features, and the integration of our smart electronic locks into our ecosystem or our partners’ ecosystems. You will contribute to and be responsible for all phases of embedded firmware development. 

 

  • (50%) Architect and develop IoT firmware solutions for New Product Introductions (NPI), New Features or Enhancements to Existing Products inclusive of scope, architect, design, develop, test, and validate, release to production and future support of solutions.
  • (20%) Work with other technical and non-technical team members to take high level project requirements into firmware specification documents, design trade-offs, risk assessments, solutions, scope/time estimates, test, and execution.
  • (10%) Set a modular and scalable firmware architecture that spans across multiple products or product roadmap to meet the stated objectives and goals
  • (5%) Work with other developers internally and externally on solution development and continue to optimize for code size, performance, testing and product features across all products.
  • (5%) Responsible for new features investigations, prototyping and new idea/intellectual-property generations as part of product innovation process
  • (5%) Represent the team and organization with external alliances, industry related events, partners, and customers.
  • (5%) Report project progress, issues, risks, and potential solutions; test and manage defects to a resolution.

 

Requirements

  • BS or MS Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent degree
  • 5+ years of strong design experience in C/C++ and assembly, RTOS/bare metal for embedded applications in a highly technical and analytical role
  • 5+ years of experience developing networked devices in consumer or commercial products
  • 3+ years of testing experience in developing products using WIFI/BLE, chip-to-chip communication protocols or interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, etc.)
  • Experience in writing firmware for low power battery-operated consumer devices utilizing ARM/Cortex M series, or compatible micro-controllers with small memory sizes
  • Broad understanding of emerging IoT, cloud/micro services and mobile technologies
  • Familiarity with issue tracking software (Jira), Collaboration tools (Confluence), and version control (Git, SVN)
  • Strong communication, passionate, flexible, collaborative, works independently, sets own goals and has a “can-do” positive attitude
  • Excellent documentation practices
  • Some travel is required (up to 5-10%)

 

Additional Desired Skills

  • Engaging and supporting external partners to accelerate our connected product development
  • Experience in architecting and implementing end-to-end solutions for IoT and mobile services
  • Experience with sensors and sensor sampling such as motor controls and feedback loops
  • Experience in various wireless communication protocols such ZigBee, Zwave or other propriety solutions
  • Ability to read and work with electronic hardware and schematics
