We have multiple openings for Sr. Fire Inspectors / Sr. Technical Coordinators. You will be responsible for providing advanced technical support to the Laboratorys comprehensive Fire Protection Program, for the implementation and execution of the Hot Work Permit, Fire Extinguisher Maintenance, and Fire Protection Inspection Programs. You will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and conflicting priorities. This position is in the Fire and Building Safety Division of the Emergency Management Department.Essential Duties- Provide advanced technical support and perform oversight functions to maintain a comprehensive Fire Protection Program, including the implementation and execution of the Fire Protection Inspection, Hot Work Permit, Fire Protection and Life Safety Equipment Maintenance, and implementation of CERT Programs.- Perform fire inspections and maintain fire protection and life safety equipment adhering to established National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Life Safety Codes and Standards, Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H), DOE/NNSA regulatory compliance, and program procedures and design criteria.- Perform building and work site inspections, evaluate activities, and determine ES&H conditions related to hot work processes, fire extinguishers, and fire protection system inspections, initiate corrective actions, and perform authorized impairments and restoration of service for water-based fire suppression systems.- Acquire, analyze and interpret moderately complex data and reports, monitor and take measurements on a variety of fire protection and life safety equipment, systems or operations to determine compliance with established design or a standards procedure.- Participate in and develop emergency response activities and occasional off-site operations.- Develop written technical reports and procedures, review, coordinate and establish fire safety policies and procedures.- Collaborate and interact independently with all levels of personnel internal and external to the Laboratory, including program and facility managers, building coordinators, skilled crafts, subcontractors, construction supervisors, emergency dispatchers, assurance officers, and management, report results, provide regular updates, and recommend technical solutions to problems.- Perform all assignments and operations in accordance with security, quality standards, Work Planning and Control, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Life Safety Codes and Standards, DOE/NNSA regulatory compliance, programmatic and Laboratory business practice policies and procedures.- Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications- Associate degree in ES&H, Fire Protection, Fire Technology, Occupational Safety and Health, or other related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and extensive related experience.- Significant and advanced technical experience in fire protection including performing and executing Hot Work Permits, Fire Extinguisher Maintenance, Fire Protection Inspections, or with development of these Programs.- Advanced technical knowledge and high-level understanding of fire protection, health and safety disciplines, procedures, standards, techniques, and related analytical instrumentation, tracking and database systems and equipment.- Effective technical leadership, project management, organizational, and independent decision-making skills to establish guidelines, techniques and procedures, solve complex technical problems, and handle multiple complex issues in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities, changing deadlines, and frequent interruptions.- Experience in specialized performance-based training for field and emergency response operations, and in the development of training and safety guidelines for facilities, equipment and experimental processes.- Effective interpersonal skills and experience working independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing high-level customer service.- Effective verbal and written communication skills, and ability to use a variety of communication devices such as cellular, two-way radios, and portable phones, and ability to clearly relay pertinent information, read and interpret technical instructions, state and local maps.- Ability to walk extensively, climb ladders, access crawl spaces, basements, attics, work flexible schedules, maintain a valid California Drivers License, and lift up to 50 pounds in a safe and controlled manner.Desired Qualifications- Experience applying DOE/NNSA fire protection requirements.- Experience as a Fire Inspector or an assignment involving fire inspection duties.- Experience as an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Inspector and/or with servicing AEDs.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
