As a leaders on our Legal Privacy Compliance group, you'll play an important part in implementing projects to help uphold Apple's high ethical and corporate standards.

As Senior Engineering Manager, Privacy Management Office (PMO), you will report to the Director of Privacy Compliance. You will lead a team whose direction will be to drive change within Apple as we strive to comply with laws and allow our customers to export and import their data in industry defined formats from other platforms and service providers. You will also be required to work with industry colleagues to agree the industry standards on data ranging from photos to music files, email content and other areas to be agreed and driven in line with the objectives set by the Privacy Steering Committee.

You will drive change on necessary systems architecture and tooling for use across Apple, working with engineering teams, to facilitate, measure and ensure Apple achieves compliance with global legal requirements.

We are looking for someone like you to work with engineering teams across Apple to drive our work as part of the Data Transfer Project - https://datatransferproject.dev (https://datatransferproject.dev). This requires detailed systems engineering knowledge together with an ability to influence discussions internally and externally to ensure Apple's strategic objectives are achieved.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for working with IS&T and iCloud teams to ensure that Apple's commitment to privacy when providing users with their privacy rights at privacy.apple.com (http://privacy.apple.com) is maintained and constantly improved. You will also be expected to ensure that we adapt privacy.apple.com (http://privacy.apple.com) to the changing legal landscape under the GDPR, CCPA, CPRA and requirements in relation to data portability under the draft Digital Markets Act in Europe. There will also be a need to benchmark Apple's efforts against those of industry partners and competitors to ensure that Apple's leading position on privacy is maintained.

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years experience working with or leading complex teams
  • Proven engineering skills within Apple identifying solutions to engineering problems
  • Deep understanding or a proven ability to develop an understanding of Apple systems within IS&T, AMP, ACS and any other areas where we will need to make data portability a priority
  • Proven experience driving complex cross functional initiatives
  • Able to clearly organize and inform through excellent written and verbal communications
  • Ability to lead, take action and provide goal oriented direction in the face of ambiguity
  • Strong analytical capability with attention to detail
  • Able to multi-task across diverse business units and geographical boundaries
  • Comfortable expressing a point of view and influencing change
  • Ability to identify and develop key employee talent
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with numerous people at all levels throughout the company

Description

We are looking for someone to lead Privacy Compliance projects and initiatives, including possible conflicting priorities and business interests. We'll need you to be firmly in the weeds with your partners - establish relationships and get to know their goals, objectives, and other commitments. Drive decisions, critical issues, and conflict resolution with neutral, approachable, data-driven communications.

You will:
- Organize and manage work streams for the Privacy Portal with a view to delivering projects, and establish longer term roadmaps
- Inform work streams for Privacy Portal & Portability with industry against the background of a competitive and changing regulatory landscape
- Perform a technology evangelist role with industry partners and drive the development of standards that reflect Apple's technology goals
- Manage Apple's engagement (alignment, planning, development, rollout, post launch support) with DTP and ensure we meet our commitments from a compliance standpoint on portability.
- Drive the development and technical architecture of tooling to help achieve privacy compliance across Apple working with SWE, IS&T and ACS.
- Influence industry participation and internal teams to drive support for data portability.
- Establish a technology roadmap for the privacy portal and engage with teams across Apple to drive collaboration & alignment
- Build out a team of engineering program managers that are well versed with data subject rights, portability, API standards to support technical engagements that are approved by the Privacy Steering Committee Management Office across Apple.
