Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer will develop FPGA designs in VHDL for all major vendors and device families including: Xilinx, Microsemi (Actel), Intel (Altera) and Lattice designs are implemented using VHDL for the following applications: Radiation-Hard and Radiation-Tolerant, Radio Frequency (RF) and Electro-Optical (EO) DSP, controls, data links, and embedded processing. Designers work with circuit card designers and systems engineers to develop requirements, architect new parts, partition and perform code development, simulation, place and route. Designs are verified against requirements using both directed test and constrained random methodologies. Design support is expected from requirements definition through integration and test. Design documentation and configuration management are required.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • Independently drive projects and execute to program schedules on time and budget
  • Lead small teams and mentor junior engineers
  • Demonstrate self-motivation, with little supervision required
  • Design and deliver production quality FPGA releases from initial proof of concept up to production
  • Work cooperatively with systems, hardware, software engineers, and program management to ensure product success
  • Demonstrate the ability to architect FPGA-based systems to determine parts, interfaces, and Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
  • Translate system level requirements into FPGA requirements
  • Design and code in VHDL for reliability and maintainability
  • Verify designs utilizing self-checking techniques with directed and constrained random tests, while tracking functional and code coverage
  • Create complete documentation including requirements, verification plan, and users guides
  • Support internal and external technical reviews

Dual Grade req info - This position can be a Sr. Engineer or a Principal Engineer, based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position

An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Masters is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with digital design and VHDL coding.
  • Expertise/experience in FPGA design for radiation-hard or radiation-tolerant arrays
  • Experience with FPGA vendors and device families suitable for radiation-hard and/or radiation-tolerant designs and appropriate tool flows
  • Expertise in delivering FPGA solutions to system level applications
  • Hands on experience with integration and debug
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Value:
  • Experience with FPGA design techniques to reduce or eliminate Single Event Effects (SEEs)
  • Experience with Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) techniques through custom FPGA Register Transfer Level (RTL) and/or synthesis directives
  • Experience using safe hardware design practices specific to FPGAs, including safe encoded Finite State Machines (FSMs)
  • Verification and Validation (V&V) experience with radiation-hard and/or radiation-tolerant FPGA designs, including simulation and/or emulation
  • Experience with design for natural space radiation environment in LEO, MEO and/or GEO orbits
  • Experience with design for man-made or hostile endoatmospheric and/or exoatmospheric radiation environments including electromagnetic pulse
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1809, Space Environment for USAF Space Vehicles, requirements
  • Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Experience with concurrent error detection, hamming code, parity code, and/or Built-In Self-Test (BIST) techniques
