We have multiple openings for experienced Spacecraft Systems Engineers to work on projects and initiatives with a focus on U.S. national security. You will be a member of an engineering team that will provide space mission engineering solutions for both national security and basic science investigations with sponsors including NASA, Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD) and other government agencies. As an engineering team member, you will work on all aspects of space system hardware from design and analysis to assembly, integration and test. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Work as an integral part of a small team of scientists and engineers to develop technical proposals for spacecraft missions including payload and spacecraft subsystem electrical specifications, spacecraft subsystem electrical specification, and cost and schedule estimates.
- Review, advise, and conduct complex analysis and development studies in support of programmatic goals, including analysis of novel or unprecedented problems as an information resource to system engineers.
- Lead electrical engineering design for spacecraft subsystems from conceptualization, simulation, part grade specification, layout, fabrication and acceptance testing.
- Exercise technical knowledge of the limitations of proven concepts and practices on electrical systems, equipment, and/or hardware to correctly evaluate alternatives or risk associated with using or replacing a nonconforming component for orbital requirements.
- Participate in spacecraft subsystems design reviews, integrated test planning and execution.
- Provide in flight software design and integration into embedded platforms, with an emphasis on hardware interfacing using low-level C, assembly, and/or real time language (RTL).
- Provide technical direction to small teams and work as the primary spacecraft subsystem technical contact.
- Interface with customer organizations, payload science experts, analysts, manufacturing engineers, and project staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In addition, at the SES.3 Level
- Apply advanced electrical engineering solutions and technical analysis to develop and implement creative solutions to resolve highly complex technical and programmatic issues.
- Develop electrical engineering path to flight vision and lead a team supporting spacecraft launch and early operations, maintaining spacecraft health and safety, optimizing performance, and troubleshooting anomalies.
- Support mission planning functions, including design and analysis of spacecraft electrical requirements, electrical component assurance test plan and operational concepts.

- Bachelors degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Electrical Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Broad experience with aerospace and/or spacecraft engineering, designing, assembling or testing flight hardware.
- Comprehensive knowledge or board experience with one or more of the following spacecraft systems and subsystems: attitude, propulsion, power, data handling and on-board processing, thermal, structures and mechanisms, telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C), and payload.
