Job Description

The Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking an entry-level Software Test Engineer with some experience in systems integration and test of complex systems. The qualified applicant will become a member of a small Agile team supporting an established program for Army Air and Missile Defense. Located in Huntsville, Alabama, ASL conducts world-class applied research in avionics modeling, simulation, analysis, testing, evaluation, and software development in support of government sponsors.

Job Duties:

The successful candidate will be responsible for activities including but not limited to:

  • Maintaining, developing, and executing tests at the system and integration levels
  • Working closely with hardware and software developers to recreate and resolve issues found during requirements testing
  • Developing and maintaining test automation
  • Maintaining customer JavaScript scripts related to the product
  • May be called upon to work closely with customers as the first point of contact for high-level troubleshooting of product
  • Producing final project reports related to test and requirements coverage
  • Development and maintenance of test automation.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related degree.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Some experience with scripting and automation
  • Experience using Python, JavaScript, or other high-level scripting languages
  • Experience with VirtualBox or other virtualization software
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms
  • Administration-level knowledge of Linux OS
  • Familiarity with requirements management and bug tracking tools like DOORS or Jira
  • Strong communication skills and capable of working in a multi-tasking team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience working in a classified environment
  • Experience with Jenkins and Continuous Integration pipelines
  • Pytest framework
  • Experience with Atlassian suite: JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, REST, and other network communication protocols
  • Knowledge of Data Distribution Service (DDS)

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
