Do you have a passion for software security and open source? Does working on novel approaches to improve the security in open source interest you? Do you want to interact with the open source community, present your work in public and discuss your ideas with others? And what about researching novel mechanisms to improve the state of the art when it comes to detecting new issues? That's what we are looking for.

We need a developer, preferably with experience in the Linux kernel, to work on cross functional and cross geo teams to design, develop, validate, and upstream security and functional mitigations in the kernel. You'll have the opportunity to work daily with other kernel developers, hardware architects, microcode architects, and security researchers. This role will offer you many opportunities for visibility and to influence and engage with multiple organizations and has a huge impact on Intel's business in client and datacenter platforms. You'll make possible for Intel's customers to protect their systems from security vulnerabilities.

What we do
  • Develop new tools to find novel security concerns in open source software. 
    The ideal candidate should exhibit the following behavioral traits:
  • We develop security mitigations in the Linux kernel for hardware and software vulnerabilities. 
  • We explore new potential issues and work on fixes before they are publicly disclosed. 
  • Upstream software patches and release tools as open source. 
  •   Present our developments and findings in external conferences about security, open source, system administration, etc.

A Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related field.
4 years of experience in:

  • System security research and exploring software and hardware techniques as a method of attack against targets within the computing systems.
  • Security threats, vulnerability research along with practicing security development lifecycle
  • Solid understanding of computer architecture
  • C, C++ or Rust programming skills

3 years of experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Deep understanding of operating systems (Linux/Windows) and hypervisors (Xen/KVM)
  • Security testing techniques including static analysis and fuzzing.
  • Security code review, analysis, and vulnerability assessment.
  • Thread modeling, reverse engineering, computer forensics.
  • Prior experience contributing to open source projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree + 3years of experience or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Knowledge about performance modeling.
  • Experience in Software validation and testing.
  • Experience in low level optimizations for Intel Architecture
  • Experience with DevOps tools.
