Job Summary:
The Whole Life Engineering Directorate has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Software Safety Engineer to join us on the Multifunction Radio Frequency Systems (MFRFS) team in McKinney, TX.

The Whole Life Engineering Directorate is a systems engineering organization whose main objective is to influence hardware, software, and systems throughout all phases of a systems life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability and economical ownership by the customer and end users.

As a Software Safety Engineer, you are an integral participant in the design/development process and are responsible for performing risk analyses to identify risks and influence design to eliminate or minimize safety hazards. In this role, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team responsible for both Software and System Safety.

Specific responsibilities may include:
Developing Software Safety Requirements and providing requirements analysis and flow-down of Safety requirements and attributes
Conducting Safety Analyses/documenting results (Preliminary Hazards List, System Hazard, Hazard Tracking, Functional Hazard, Fault Tree, Safety Assessment)
Performing code analyses to determine whether code has the potential to command the hardware and contribute to a hazard
Participate/Support the System Safety Working Groups, Technical Interchange and Change Review Board meetings
Partner verification procedures to ensure Safety Significant requirements are tested at the proper level of rigor

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. Active Secret Clearance is preferred.

Required Skills:
4+ years technical experience as a Software Safety Engineer. Consideration will be made for relevant experience in the area of System Safety Engineering.
Planning, performing analyses, and reporting results IAW MIL-STD-882
Demonstrated experience executing a System Safety Program with Software Safety Analysis in a DoD environment.

*This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Education (including Major):
Bachelor's degree in STEM.
An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Master's is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, or a Technical Discipline with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience since earning degree.

Desired Skills/Experience:
Experience working with combat/weapon systems
Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (including Agile and/or Waterfall)
Embedded C/C++ on Linux; Qt on Linux
Software requirements
Use of tools, such as Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) database tool, Clearcase, Windchill Product Data Manager (PDM), Jenkins
Experience with a wide application of technical theories and concepts related to system safety engineering and combat/weapon systems design
MIL-HDBK-454, MIL-STD1472, MIL-STD-1474, MIL-STD-464, Joint Software System Safety Committee (JSSSC) Handbook, MIL-STD-1425, and AMCOM 385-17.
Software System Safety Technical Review Panels (SSSTRP) or Software Materiel Release activities
Earned Value (EV) Management
Developing proposals and basis of estimates
Strong interpersonal skills
Microsoft Office
