Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a firmware engineer to contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of industrial automation products. In this role, you will work with a small, collaborative group within our large Research and Development division using agile software methodologies, and be involved in all parts of the software design lifecycle. Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate proficiency with multiple programming languages, knowledge of automated software testing, and be eager to learn new skills and concepts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities


1. Participate in the design, implementation, and test of firmware/software systems.
2. Understand hardware and software interactions, and collaborate with Hardware Engineers.
3. Prepare and maintain designs and test documentation.
4. Mentor Associate Engineers and Technicians.
5. Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
6. Understand. Create. Simplify.
7. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications


B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
Typically 2+ years experience in one or more of the following areas:

-- Embedded Linux systems development including:
- C, C++, golang, Python

-- Embedded systems firmware development including:
- Real-time firmware design
- C and assembly languages
- Object oriented design
- Object oriented languages (C++, C#, Java)
- Other scripting languages (bash, lua)
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications

Modern communications protocols
Digital communications and signal processing

Graphical User Interface development in Desktop and Browser environments
Project management
