Project/Unit Description

EOSID specializes in the complete optical imaging and remote sensing chain, from the analysis, design, development, integration, test and evaluation of imaging and sensing systems, to the processing, exploitation, and visualization of data and imagery. EOSID also specializes in modeling and simulation (M&S) of high-energy laser (HEL) propagation, engagements, and effects. EOSID makes critical contributions to national defense in the domains of Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR), directed energy (DE), and undersea warfare (USW).

Job Purpose

A Software Engineer designs, develops, and tests software; additionally manages software development teams, provides technical leadership, establishes software development lifecycle practices and processes. The Software Engineer is proficient in programming languages such as Java, C, C++, Ruby, Python, Scala, and Groovy. Requires extensive knowledge of programming languages, software development, computer operating systems, continuous integration, continuous delivery, DevOps, API development, container development, and distributed systems. Applies engineering principles to software creation, managing production releases of software, performing code reviews, merging feature development branches, and analyzing and triaging issues. Necessary skill areas: Programming and coding, fundamentals of computer science, design and architecture, algorithms and data structures, information analysis, debugging software, testing software, and working in development teams. Works with sponsors to curate requirements, define sprint work items, set priorities for work backlogs, and organize development teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform software development, software debugging, software modification/enhancement, and software documentation.
  • Develop and maintain kernel and user-level software and scripts
  • Contribute to technical reports and presentations

Additional Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and develop software applications in order to meet customer requirements
  • Provide a level of effort (LOE) estimates for tasking
  • Develop and maintain software and scripts to support embedded software development and processes
  • Lead and contribute to technical efforts in the analysis, construction, and design of optical systems for remote sensing applications
  • Document work and capture research findings in an internal memorandum, sponsor briefs, conference proceedings, and journal articles
  • Brief senior leadership and sponsors on technical research efforts
  • Support field integration, data collection, and other testing activities relating to Electro-Optical Systems.
  • Support and/or lead technical efforts focused on the exploitation of EO/IR and lidar imagery and data via Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) for applications in autonomous navigation, intelligence gathering, damage assessment, and targeting.
  • Participate in business development efforts by contributing to white papers, competitive proposals, and proposing new research areas suitable for Internal Research and Development (IRAD) funding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience implementing algorithms using one or more of the following: C/C++, Java, Python, ROS, Visual Studio
  • Experience with Computer Vision or image processing
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience with high-speed image and/or signal processing techniques
  • Experience with programming and scripting (i.e. Matlab, Python, IDL)
  • Experience with Linux, Red hat, Ubuntu, CentOS
  • Experience with Kalman filtering/Inertial Navigation System (INS)
  • Experience in DevSecOps
  • Experience with Digital Signal Processing, real-time algorithm implementation and/or point cloud processing
  • Experience with Active/Passive Elecro-optical (EO)/Infrared (IR) sensors - LIDAR, RADAR, Hyperspectral Imagers, SWIR/MWIR cameras

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
