Job Description

The Software Engineer in the Applied Embedded Systems (AES) Division supports the design, development, implementation, and testing of a variety of software applications in support of Radio Frequency (RF) Electronic Warfare (EW) systems. This includes applications related to system test and support, system data processing, signal processing, system communications, system security, mission data, and embedded software systems. The software engineer will work closely with system subject matter experts and software system engineers to support presently fielded systems and produce improved functionality for system users.


  • Design and development of software tools that support Electronic Warfare systems.
  • Design and execution of software unit and integration tests.
  • Development or improvement of PC software that supports embedded software systems.
  • Integration of multiple software applications internal and external to the systems.
  • Serves as a technical expert on assigned projects and systems to include keeping up-to-date on industry standards, system interfaces, engineering tools, and road maps for current and future updates.
  • Participate in technical meetings with GTRI and sponsor personnel.
  • Develop technical papers for conferences, speak publicly, and present briefings to potential customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with software development
  • Experience with source control systems and/or computing device hardware
  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree with a graduation date of December,2020 and skills relevant to this position will be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing computer applications utilizing C# for .NET, Python, C/C++
  • Experience with software test and debug
  • Experience with Electronic Warfare systems
  • Experience with embedded software systems
  • Experience with configuration management and source control systems (Git, SVN, etc.)
  • Experience with software security concepts (encryption, authentication, integrity, etc.)
  • Experience with the Atlassian Software Suite
  • Active SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position are required to be U.S. Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
