Job Description

The Robotics and Autonomous Systems Division (RASD) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) seeks a Software Development Robotics Student Research Assistant who is self-motivated and interested in gaining real world experience to start spring 2020. The student will provide software development, testing, and other support, specifically for research in Swarming, Distributed Multi-Robot Systems, Collaborative Autonomy and Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

This team primarily develops swarming algorithms for unmanned aircraft, performs software and hardware-in-the-loop testing, research and analysis, and live flight testing. Duties may include software and system testing, development and design, assembly of components/systems, performing experiments, formal creation and follow-up for development issues/bugs, software and system documentation, assisting with field tests/demos, whitepaper creation, and other technical tasks appropriate for the skill level of an engineering/software student.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Student Assistant/Research Assistant

  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in integrating and deploying robotics algorithms for real-time operation on a robot in a real world environment is a plus. Proven research or software project experience in at least one of these areas is desirable:
- Multi-robot collaboration
- Path planning and navigation
- Behavior based robotics
- Optimal control and estimation
- Machine learning for robotic control
- Software engineering processes

Strong candidates will have extensive C/C++ and Python programming skills, follow software engineering best practices and have a strong mathematical foundation and problem solving skills. The ideal candidate will have knowledge in one of the following:

-ROS

-Linux

-Configuration management tools

Hours per Week

1020 hours per week

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
