As an integral part of the Soft Goods Manufacturing Design's team, you will help create the most amazing Soft Goods products on the planet. Work with Apple's Industrial Design and Product Design teams to develop highly challenging colors and finishes on a variety of substrates ranging from synthetic yarns, innovative textiles, to natural leathers

Key Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge on color science and colorimetry fundamentals
  • Expert on color space, color specification system and human color perception
  • Excellent understanding of color and light measurement instrumentation
  • Hands-on experience in visual and instrumental color approval process
  • Working knowledge on color appearance components and color difference models
  • Extensive background in polymer and color (Dyes and Pigments) chemistry
  • 5+ years of experience in development of dyeing/finishing processes for textiles, leather and/or substrates (PU, PET, PP)
  • Expertise in establishing process controls that adhere to strict color specifications
  • Solid understanding of DOE principals and use of statistical software
  • Ability to plan, execute, and present results from investigations using statistical analysis and clearly communicated results and recommendations
  • Knowledge and ability to execute corner and limit sample analysis in preparation and in-process manufacturing
  • Solid understanding of chemical and mechanical properties of materials as they relate to manufacturing requirements and process drivers
  • Experience working with an international supply chain

Description

Provide technical support for color matching and color reproduction, including training and identifying resources and opportunities
Maintain color instrumental and process documentation (e.g. SOP)
Evaluates, implements and standardize color measurement procedures and policies
Develops, implements, maintains and provide training on color development process and color evaluation
Match, pilot and scale new color/cosmetic finishes for mass production.
Utilize combined dyeing and finishing chemical, mechanical and decorative finishing techniques to meet challenging new targets.
Research new methods for creating new dyeing and finishing process, implementing tighter control of existing finishes.
Present analysis to key decision makers that will be used to make commercial, cosmetic and design commitments.
Evaluate supplier capabilities and address shortcomings relative to company needs.
Drive on-site support in conjunction with cross functional team members for implementation of manufacturing processes at supplier locations.
Establish relationships with cross functional counterparts and suppliers, and foster development of their capabilities and expertise.
Maintain working knowledge of key process drivers and subject matter expertise in the technologies to serve as technical resource on project teams.
Investigate and validate innovative dyeing and finishing processes, techniques, and equipment where appropriate.
Travel 30-35%

Education & Experience

BS/MS in engineering (textile, chemical, materials science, mechanical or equivalent)
