Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

The team is responsible for developing & executing test plans, installation & support documentation, planning & managing initial deployments, training, 3rd level support, and vendor management for server based products. The team researches and evaluates vendor proposals for the standardization of hardware and software solutions. The team plans, designs and recommends platform modifications or additions to increase system stability, capacity, and scalability. They provide implementation planning, management, and support during production rollouts. They establish performance standards, policies and procedures. They coordinate training for Help Desk staff, operations and Desktop Technicians.  Monitors and controls performance and health of the server resources. Utilizes software and hardware tools, identifies and diagnoses problems and factors affecting server performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE

  1. Participate in departmental and enterprise-wide projects with an emphasis on new technology.
  2. Complex problem analysis and recovery
  3. Technical consultation on complex projects
  4. Performance monitoring, technical support and advanced trouble-shooting of servers.
  5. Data integrity, backups, restores and disaster recovery.
  6. Provide proactive Server support including firmware/BIOS updates, Support Packs, researching the latest customer advisories, implementing recommendations; ensuring the desirable server performance.
  7. Package, test and deploy application packages and configurations to clients.
  8. Maintaining and creating standards and documentation for Server and Storage environments
  9. Performance monitoring, technical support and advanced trouble-shooting of servers.

  1. Data integrity, backups, restores and disaster recovery planning and execution.
  2. Demonstrate effective use of time management skills.

  1. Ability to script and automate common procedures a plus
  2. Demonstrates the ability to look outside of the HMH environment to find solutions to issues and opportunities to enhance the server infrastructure.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)  required.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Management Information Systems or Computer Science is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. 4 + years IT experience.
  2. 2 + years server administration experience in a large networked environment.
  3. 3 + years of administration experience in Microsoft Server Operating Systems.
  4. Experience in supporting VMWARE ESX Environment.
  5. Experience in supporting a large Citrix XenApp/Xendesk Environment
  6. Expert Knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems, NTFS Permissions, Performance Analysis and Active Directory configuration/support.
  7. Solid understanding of Active Directory and Windows Networking (DNS, DHCP, WINS).
  8. Experience with MS Exchange 2007/2010, ActiveSync, and Blackberry.
  9. Experience with Windows clusters and hardware load-balancing solutions.
  10. Solid IIS experience, including support and security lockdown of IIS protocols.
  11. Experience in supporting and configuring Server hardware and SAN Disk.
  12. Knowledge of all major storage protocols
  13. Storage experience: IBM and/or NetApp.
  14. Experience in capturing and repackaging software installs into MSI for deployment via SCCM.
  15. Experience in System Center Configuration Manager to remotely deploy applications and configure systems is desired.
  16. Experience in working with enterprise fax solutions like right fax that translate faxes to emails or print jobs or files
  17. Experience with Deploying and Troubleshooting MS SQL and Oracle databases.
  18. Experience with AIX Operating Systems.
  19. Experience with IBM TSM backup solution.
  20. Excellent troubleshooting, root cause analysis and permanent problem resolution skills.
  21. Ability to manage detailed tasks efficiently and effectively
  22. Good project management skills.
  23. Excellent customer service skills.
  24. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  25. Ability to communicate technical proposals to supervisors and management
  26. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
