Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute in Colorado Springs, CO is seeking senior engineers and scientists with recognized experience and subject matter expertise in RF and optical sensors and command, control, battle management, and communication systems applied in support of ballistic missile defense (BMD) and space situational awareness (SSA). Candidates will work from and report to the GTRI field office in Colorado Springs, CO with offices located within the Catalyst Campus.

Job Duties

  • Lead research efforts in addressing challenging problems facing the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and SSA community
  • Provide thought leadership as part of regular interactions with existing and potential sponsors
  • Work with staff in the field office to identify and capture new MDA and SSA business opportunities
  • Manage projects and resources to include personnel, budgets, and deliverables
  • Mentor junior staff

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and eleven (11) years' relevant full-time experience; or
  • A Doctoral degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and seven (7) years' relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience performing research and successful business development
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in one or more technical areas and be able to contribute across a broad range of problem domains
  • Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 20 or more years of experience in conducting related research and performing successful business development
  • Secret Clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance
