The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for all research, design, development, test, and qualification of camera hardware for Apple products. The Camera Sensor team develops image sensor and other silicon solutions and technologies for Apple's products, including the iPhone, iPad, MacBooks, and more. The key goal of the team is to enable the world's best camera experience for our customers. New challenges arise everyday that require the sharp problem-solving skills of talented and smart individuals. The team features a collaborative and hands-on environment that fosters engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation.

As a key member of the Sensor Core Technology team, you will be responsible for characterization of image sensors for evaluation of suppliers, development of new sensors, general problem solving, and implementation of new features. Create the best possible characterization setup for chip level, packaged part and module level development, and work with cross functional teams in many aspects of your daily activities.

  • As a Sensor Characterization Engineer owning the complete specification and characterization of sensor performance, you will be:
  • Collaborating with global image sensor suppliers to evaluate and develop new image sensors
  • Developing and implementing new characterization methods and equipment
  • Documenting and presenting your results to both internal and external engineering teams
  • Working with the Camera Technology teams to evaluate the contribution of the sensor to camera performance
  • Working with internal and external teams to assure that sufficient and correct testing is implemented at all stages to guarantee performance


You will have 3+ years of electro-optical image sensor characterization experience:

Experience in electro-optical characterization of high resolution imaging solutions.

Hands-on experience with characterization hardware and software. You will be able to innovate and build new and unique solutions.

Ability to use Matlab to analyze and present characterization data.

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

Ability to work closely with others in a very multi-functional team environment.

Background in solid-state electronic devices.

Experience developing sensor specifications and working with new sensor development

Knowledge of industry standards

Education & Experience

BS required in physics, electrical engineering, or a similar discipline, MS or PhD preferred
