Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Smyrna, GA is seeking a dynamic and analytical candidate to join the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division (ISRD) of the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL). The ideal candidate will be an experienced technical program manager to direct and oversee a portfolio of research projects supporting radar ISR problems of interest to the Department of Defense (DoD). The researcher is expected to be responsible for technical execution, schedule, and budget in addition to developing future programs and funding opportunities.

Job Duties

Researchers will be expected to participate in the execution of multiple projects simultaneously, where duties include tracking technical progress, collaborating with internal and external colleagues, sponsor engagement, submitting program deliverables, and maintaining program metrics. The candidate will have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical managerial, and operational problems, typically culminating in regular programmatic and technical interactions with government sponsors. The ideal candidate will be expected to develop relationships with current and potential sponsors, contribute to whitepapers and proposals, and set technical direction.

They must be able to demonstrate expertise to support the analysis, design, development, testing, integration, and deployment of new concepts and capabilities. They must have an established track record of technical execution of complex projects and have formed portfolios of research.

Additional job duties include:

  • Participate as a subject matter expert (SME) on programs
  • Negotiate and support contracts
  • Work across the organization with purchasing, finance, security, and other support units
  • Document and communicate advanced concepts in a manner that can be understood by internal and external stakeholders
  • Establish and support strategic plans

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, or a related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, or a related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, or a related field of study and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience with leading cross-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Experience with ISR missions in support of the analysis, design, development, testing, integration, and deployment of new concepts and capabilities.
  • Experience with Agile processes
  • Experience with delivering hardware and software products
  • Experience with business development activities including identifying opportunities, proposal writing, and cost estimates.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Top Secret Clearance
  • Experience managing a program portfolio
  • Experience programming in MATLAB, C, and/or Python
  • Awareness of Air Force organizations, acquisition processes, and Research & Development efforts

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
