Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a passionate individual for our R&D Distribution Controls and Sensors group. You will be working on high voltage protective equipment located on distribution level of the Electrical Power System. Essential Duties and Responsibilities


1. Lead the specification, architecture, design, implementation, and test of firmware systems.
2. Understand hardware and firmware interactions, and collaborate with Hardware Engineers.
3. Lead and mentor Engineers and Technicians.
4. Serve as a technical contact for internal and external customers.
5. Attend industry technical meetings and conferences as needed.
6. Model, teach, and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
7. Understand. Create. Simplify.
8. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications


B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
Typically 10+ years experience in one or more of the following areas:
-- Embedded systems firmware development including:
-- real-time firmware design
-- C++, C and assembly languages
-- object oriented design
-- Real-Time Operating Systems

-- Test development with scripting languages, preferably Python
-- Digital communications and signal processing
-- Agile development process

Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Industrial controls
3-phase electric power systems
Modern communications protocols
Digital and analog circuitry
Project management
