Senior RF Systems Researcher - SEAL

The Georgia Tech Research Institute is seeking senior research engineers or scientists with expertise in the areas of communications, networking and datalinks. Candidates will support SEAL's Command and Control Communication Program Office (C3PO) in the analysis and technology assessment of C2 platforms and support teams designing, analyzing, and implementing alternative hardware and software technologies to update these platforms. Candidates should have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical and managerial problems.

In addition to performing applied research, candidates are expected to manage research efforts and support business development activities. Business development includes the identification of research topics, conceptualization and formulation of research efforts, interaction with potential sponsors, and writing white papers and proposals. Candidates will be expected to direct research in a team setting and manage resources and budgets. Researchers are expected to be able to work independently as well as in teams. Applicants are required to possess both good written and oral skills in order to document and convey research to both internal personnel and external customers on a regular basis.

Job Duties

  • Mentoring of junior RF engineers
  • Business developing activities like leading proposals
  • Leading tasks
  • Writing reports, test plans and other documentation required by programs
  • RF system design and architecture
  • RF modeling and simulation (including HFSS, CST, ADS, MATLAB, etc.)
  • RF circuit board layout and schematic capture
  • RF component design and selection including amplifiers (LNA and/or HPA), mixers, filters, modulators/demodulators, oscillators, phase and amplitude control, couplers/hybrids/dividers, switches, limiters, beam-formers, isolators, etc.
  • Receiver/Transmitter design
  • Up/Down converter design and frequency planning
  • RF gain budget analysis
  • RF testing (including S-parameters, power measurements, spectrum/harmonics/spurs, amplifier efficiency and saturated drive curves, etc)
  • T/R module design
  • Packaging and thermal management
  • Millimeter-wave systems and measurements
  • RFIC designs
  • Multi-chip modules

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Technology or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Technology or a related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Technology or a related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 9 years of relevant full-time work experience (this can include or be exclusively internships) related to RF system design and architecture, RF modeling and simulation, RF testing, or similar RF-centric subject

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
