Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is looking for hardware-oriented engineers and scientists who enjoy challenging technical problems, creating innovative solutions, and fielding those solutions. An engineer or scientist in the Sensor and Systems Engineering Division (SSED) will develop or contribute to solutions that address current, and future Department of Defense (DoD) needs. This includes analysis of DoD needs, definition and analysis of requirements, system-level design, component-level design, prototyping, laboratory testing, field testing, and building deployable systems. Candidates with analog or digital hardware experience are encouraged to apply. Desired skills include R.F. circuit design, R.F. system design, digital circuit design, FPGA firmware design, embedded software, and GPU software.

Job Duties

  • Design and build custom hardware
  • Modify existing hardware
  • Implement solutions using general-purpose hardware
  • Repurpose hardware
  • Embedded software development
  • FPGA firmware development

Applications primarily include radar, electronic warfare, and embedded signal processing but often span into communication systems, surveillance systems, and other remote sensing applications.

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Expertise in R.F., digital, firmware, or embedded software design
  • Task level project management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in engineering, mathematics, or physics
  • Ten or more years of full-time work experience
  • Program level project management experience
  • Business development experience
  • Hobbies or extracurricular activities that contribute to the applicant's technical ability

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position are required to be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
